Sail On Sailor (yes that’s me singing too )

Did another Beach Boys cover in honor of the late Brian Wilson, this time the 1973 classic Sail On Sailor. This was originally intended to be a guide vocal but it ended up being the final take…even though it was the first lol .

What?? I guess I’m not The Beach Boys fan i thought to be. I always thought that was some one-off corporate rock song. 😅

  • Thank you all!

  • What a great song, I will never forget the first time I heard Good Vibrations at my cousins house. We were barely teenagers. I always dug their surfing and hot rod car music, but there was so much more for anybody willing to listen. Thanks for posting this and bringing back some sweet memories.

  • Nice work Billy in all aspects. I’m a sucker for vocal harmonies as a child of the 60’s and teenager of the
70’s these songs have deep roots in my coming of age.

I did a quick search of the credits for this tune and can see it was a Warner Brothers Records creation
with co-composer credits for Brian Wilson, Van Dyke Parks and Tandyn Almer, lead singing by Blondie Chaplin and keyboard by Carl Wilson. It appears to be the only song that emerged from the “Holland” album which had songs contributed by almost every long standing member of the band.

  • The Beach Boys are my favorite band of all time , and Brian Wilson was my hero… been working on an album of covers since he passed in June and hope to be able to honor him and do justice

Nice job! My only wish is that there were background harmony vocals on the chorus.

Good point…I was kinda thinking the same thing . Meh it’s too late now lol

  • @Fear2Stop Loved that! One of my very favorite Beach Boys songs. As it happens, I’m working on it for a performance in October with a big group I play with two or three times a year. We haven’t done many BB songs but we did do Good Vibrations last year. Took awhile to learn that one.

It’s one of my faves too…I also really dig Brian’s demo on the Feel Flows boxed set !

Hey something maybe you could add for the next Beach Boys song? You have a nice voice so I think you could pull it off for sure.

Thank you and yeah we’re definitely planning to . About 75% done with a cover of Be Here in the morning (from 1968’s Friends) and I’m splitting vocals with out guitarist … my wife and daughter are gonna add their vocals too so it should come out pretty good I think

  • Don’t know the original, enjoyed this though… you have a great voice !

Thank you so much! I rarely sing on record but I think I’m gonna do it more often
