What savings did he recommend that Congress didn't act on?

    Specifically:

—Getting rid of the Department of Education (about 50% of staff has been fired, but it hasn't been shut down)
    —Impounding funds
    —$1–2 trillion in budget cuts
—Other miscellaneous cuts and staff reductions

Congress cowers from doing the right thing for the country because they are beholden to the voters of their state instead of acting in the best interests of the US (that's essentially the job of the President, but the DOGE recommendations require congressional action). This is just the nature of the system we have.

But all of this is unrelated to the topic of the thread.

A few months ago I was searching for the old medieval images of musicians to discover some new instruments and arrangements from that time. What I got from the searcher is countless AI-generated slop that just looks like old medieval musicians but with a modern take on instruments at best, but most of them are hallucinated gibberish. 🤦‍♂️ So yeah, it’s just beginning…

archive.org was my only option, or to visit the local museums and libraries.

    TE to the rescue!

What is this thing, haha?! 🤭

Just remember @Simon the person you’re debating with is defending a man with a record of fascist ideology and who, quite literally, did a fascist salute that somehow, inexplicably, this forum member just waves away to continue defend online as if the whole world doesn’t remember that.

Their profile pic is a picture of Elon’s goverment funded rocket, maybe, assuming it isn’t AI. They use Grok regularly, unironically.

They’re mask off saying it with their whole chest they’re okay with this behavior. Otherwise, they wouldn’t defend that man in the slightest.

You are accusing me of supporting a fascist, which is a lie. Don't ever post a response to me again. Also, go to hell.

I know this is the Other section, but let’s try to keep anything directly personal out of the discussion as much as possible in the name of keeping the peace.

That said, this isn’t the place to be if anyone gets offended over other people’s opinions or their reactions to one’s own.

It’s easy to avoid provided no one @‘s each other. Something to keep in mind if things get heated.

Again, this is not what this thread is about.

I'd be appreciative if comments went back on track to focus on Suno Studio and A.I. related things.

Perhaps Suno AI could be persuaded to add a feature for deciding who to vote for, and submitting our votes for us so that we don’t have to interrupt our not creating of music of our own process.

You mean add a rating system for posted songs? They sort of have that, I guess. You can add songs to your playlist, which acts like a rating system of sorts.

Sorry, I guess I missed the humor somehow when I read it.

  • Huh. That has never happened to any of my other jokes before. It’s a new feeling for me.

  • @offbrands You’re not the only one frustrated with the OP but there’s not much the mods can do unless he crosses a line again. Unfortunately he’s one of the most prolific posters on the forum now which has definitely changed the vibe IMO but moving some threads into this Other section has definitely helped.

    "...frustrated with the OP..."

Why? Anyone who does not like threads about generative music is free to avoid this thread and the discussion.

There are threads in the forum which don't interest me but I manage to not go into those threads to complain about them, looking to stir up trouble.

Often, when I hurt someone's feelings, normally, I would apologize for that.

I can't apologize for the difficult truth of the matter is that defending, supporting financially, using the products of a known fascist apologist/supporter, will garner people thinking you're okay with fascists, that just comes with the territory.

Birds of a feather, so on, etc - If i'm wrong to assume that supporting in anyway a well documented fascist means a person does, in effect, at minimum not mind their, and at worst supports their extreme political ideology, well, I can apologize for my more than fair assumption, one that I guarantee others for sure are thinking.

I'm not responding to anyone in particular, as I didn't originally, other than Simon.

A fire burns where angels fall
    A devil's laugh
    It echoes tall
Cigarette smoke in a dim-lit hall

    [Chorus]
Burn in hell in sweet company
Or float in heaven's dull symphony
    What's the point of wings
If they're clipped to be free

    [Verse 2]
    The jukebox screams
    The neon bleeds
    Broken halos
    Forgotten creeds
Heaven's too quiet for my needs

    [Prechorus]
    Give me chaos
    Give me sin
    Let the wild ones in

    [Chorus]
Burn in hell in sweet company
Or float in heaven's dull symphony
    What's the point of wings
If they're clipped to be free

    [Bridge]
I'd trade a harp for a broken string
I'd trade a throne for a night that stings
    Let mediocrity melt
    Let the wicked sing

I just gave it the prompt and pulled the lever. No real guidance, although I did give it "alt rock, indie rock" for a style.

It's rare to get a "banger" by just typing in a simple prompt, although it has happened. Typically I futz around with different prompts and throw a few lyrics into the mix to get something better. The video I'm currently working on took a few tries, some editing and then prompting again to get what I was after. Just like at a casino, you might sit down at a slot machine and win in the first pull but you're more likely to win if you learn the rules of blackjack and sit at the table.

AI lyrics tend to be more literal than poetic, but then again I'm guilty of that too. I've also thought some songs written by people must have deep poetic meaning only to find out the songwriter just "liked the way the words sounded together"

AI can be a great place to try ideas out, especially for people who don't have a band or other musicians to collaborate with. I understand why people are hesitant to use it but I feel like it can be a great tool in the right hands.

  • @offbrands ,

I know these days it's difficult to know when someone is speaking for themselves versus someone using AI or a bot, but my replies are 100% from my own mind, for better or for worse.😄

As far as environmental impact, I do what I can personally to lower my carbon footprint. I walked four miles to work and back for a couple of years, rode a bike for another couple. I'm getting a bit too old for that anymore, but I doubt my CPU usage has approached anywhere near what I cut out over the years. I do understand as an individual that's a drop in the proverbial bucket.

Prompting doesn't give the same rewarding feeling as actually figuring out something on your own, at least in my view. But not everyone has the time, money, or support to pursue learning an instrument. I was lucky enough to have been born into a musical family with 2 working parents that could afford to get me lessons and an instrument and I'm still not a great musician. I was always being drawn to another interest. Jack of all trades, master of none.

AI gives me a way to take an idea and make it into something that would not exist otherwise. It gives me a way to share a part of myself that I could not any other way. I took Commercial Art, Drama, and Band in High School, did community theatre, learned photography and some 3d modeling, and played guitar in a club band. I've tried to find ways to express myself and this is just another way.

Would I feel that way if all I did was type a prompt? No. I use AI to refine my ideas. I describe the images I generate to make videos, which I also describe in detail regarding the scene, lighting, and camera motion. I then edit the video so important moments coincide with the music I generate.

But if someone with absolutely no musical talent whatsoever finds joy in randomly creating songs that no one else might ever enjoy, good on them.

If you personally don't like AI I can respect that. I also respect vegans but I'm not going to stop eating meat or dairy despite very well thought out and rational arguments.

We all have to decide for ourselves what is moral and correct at least until laws state otherwise.😀

I appreciate the responses and for explaining that you take the time to respond in earnest, thank you.

I'm getting a bit too old for that anymore, but I doubt my CPU usage has approached anywhere near what I cut out over the years. Everyone is free to do what they feel is best, often times people rationalize/justify their usage or things with their own output. Consumption is a part of a capitalist society. We all are a part of it and have to find our way through it where we are comfortable when we go to sleep at night. Sounds like you've reflected on it and this is your break even point. Can't knock that.

I'm not sure how much you know or don't know about it.

There is Groks insane Memphis Plant that is Elon being a terrible CEO / Human in society, as he tends to be, Poisoning a community with toxic amounts of gas fumes. Lots of reporting on this since.

The water usage is absurd, frankly. We have reporting that should send a chill down the spine of anyone who takes the time to look into it.

A search with ChatGPT uses 10 times the amount of energy than a Google Search

So these tech monoliths are raking in the profits while everyday Americans are paying the bill to fund it and idk about you but that pisses me off. I don't use it, why am I paying to subsidize it?

Prompting doesn't give the same rewarding feeling as actually figuring out something on your own, at least in my view.

I appreciate you sharing this sentiment with me and this thread.

But not everyone has the time, money, or support to pursue learning an instrument.

People have to make time and effort to learn, if you really want it. If my ADHD ass can admit that, then other people need to look inward and realize that learning anything takes time, it takes effort. You gotta be shit before you can be less shit, etc.

I was lucky enough to have been born into a musical family with 2 working parents that could afford to get me lessons and an instrument and I'm still not a great musician. I was always being drawn to another interest. Jack of all trades, master of none.

This feels like a story I hear from a most people when their parents are musically inclined / whatever talent they may have pursued. It feels like there's something deeper there, but I wouldn't presume to know or even guess what that could be.

Personally, I lived a life of fight or flight, I never really had the idea to do anything creative until I was 30. Which is crazy to think about. I never felt safe or experimental enough to take that plunge. So now I want to do it all, and it's left me with a similar feeling of master of none. Definitely not a master of anything ;)

AI gives me a way to take an idea and make it into something that would not exist otherwise. It gives me a way to share a part of myself that I could not any other way. I took Commercial Art, Drama, and Band in High School, did community theatre, learned photography and some 3d modeling, and played guitar in a club band. I appreciate that this helps you express yourself in a way that wouldn't have been possible without it.

You're also generating music? For some reason I thought you made your own music but used AI for visuals?

But if someone with absolutely no musical talent whatsoever finds joy in randomly creating songs that no one else might ever enjoy, good on them.

I suppose for myself, I have only been learning about creativity and dipping my toes in it for 6 years, all during the time of AI being around and getting more and more popular, and I've only really gotten any kind of a small grip on my ADHD in the last 2 years, and it's just anything worth doing is worth doing right and that feeling of euphoria, dopamine, what have you, is so much better than AI generated prompts could ever be.

I'll say this, being creative got me for the first time in my life to be sober, YMMV, but after years of therapy and reflection, and wanting to be more creative, it's all turned into a part of my life i'm genuinely proud of, and maybe i'm a bit defensive of that and a bit sad to know that many people won't have enough compassion and patience within themselves to give themselves the permission to take a journey like that. It's been the best chapter of my life so far, and I know that doing some of the effort could be really helpful to many.

But humans will always take a shortcut if they can. So that's the issue I have with it. AI is a shortcut and it will be used by those that can't be gentle enough with themselves to take the time to be bad first.

If you personally don't like AI I can respect that. I also respect vegans but I'm not going to stop eating meat or dairy despite very well thought out and rational arguments.

We all have to decide for ourselves what is moral and correct at least until laws state otherwise.😀

Well, shit, can't argue with that. Quite fitting to end with that.

Can't really say anything to someone who says they basically don't care. I can respect someone when they come out and just admit that. So I appreciate you saying that.

Thank you for taking the time with your responses.

Congratulations on sobriety. Whether we agree on anything else is immaterial. I am genuinely happy to hear that.

I appreciate your responses as well. I think it's much better to seek to understand when sharing different opinions and beliefs.

Good luck on your creative journey. There is a great group of people here on this forum and in this community. I can't possibly give back as much as this place has given me.
