The WOO & UFOs (revisited)
It is two and a half years since the infamous (and now closed) "Anyone into the WOO here? UFOs etc?" thread started.
Back then some people were saying that the US government is about to come clean on UFOs and aliens.
I have not been following this stuff but I was wondering if any major advancements have happened about releasing information about UFOs and aliens.
Wasn't there some government investigation that was going to bust the whole "cover up' wide open...?

Seriously though thanks for posting this. Whatever it is, swap gas, greys, jedi, it is an interesting cultural phenomena.
I skimmed a rather long article somewhere that said in essence that the commission found nothing of note. They traced back some of the more creditable reports to intentional government initiated rumors meant to cover up weapons research, etc, that took on a life of their own.
One example was a military officer sent to spread rumors of an alien ship sighting near Area 51 at a local bar passing himself off as a local. This was to obscure sightings of something or other they were testing. This was meant to quell local talk and then fade away quickly, but the story grew legs and spread. Now the government was in the position of either admitting to the program and the intentional deceit, or to let it continue. This compounded over time, each time making any admission a bigger embarrassment.
In another example they said they found the same thing in a report about glowing hovering disks over an underground nuclear launch site. They said they found the site might be vulnerable to electrostatic attack. They said they found that the reported sighting was actually test equipment on towers hitting the facility as a test. They didn’t inform the operator on duty or anyone else for fear that the Russians would learn of the vulnerability. The same pattern of the story spinning out of control over the years repeated itself.
People will either take that as a reasonable explanation or as a coverup of a coverup.
Sorry I don’t remember the source of the article. It was from a well known publication and wasn’t just click bait, but that’s all I remember. I only scanned it out of curiosity, knowing that I wouldn’t learn anything conclusive from it.

They (government/deep state) will never tell us. Why should they? There is nothing to gain, nothing to win. My best bet is that they sit on technology for 80 years or so they hardly can figure out. All of this might very well be way beyond our understanding. Like trying to explain an ipad and it’s function to an undiscovered tribe in the rain forest.
I suspect anything that IS real and inexplicable (as far as "UFO's" go) has people behind all of it. I don't believe aliens in the Hollywood way of thinking will ever been seen or found. And if they are found, communicating with them may never be possible.
Me and my mother saw a large rectangular UFO/craft back in the 70s when I was around 8 years old. It had the size of a small ship and it drifted very slowly over our house. I am in my 50s now and I still think about that moment frequently, so you can imagine how much of an impact it has made on me and this whole subject. And an airplane or a balloon in the sky does not leave such a mark. I have read a lot about it, as well as subjects like the ancient alien theory and alien abduction phenomenon. It is an incredible deep subject that might seem Hollywood nonsense from the surface until you dive into it. I think it is hard to explain until you are witnessing something so unusual that it will stick with you. For me nothing is written in stone, the subject is fascinating but what I do believe is that our governments or elements inside the government do know a heck of a lot more than we do.
I was part of the UFO craze back in the 70's also. I saw things in the sky I couldn't explain, but then we were all seeing things back then because we wanted to see them. It's fun and all, but I never saw even one convincing shred of evidence except for things that were made by other people in all my years of life.
As for the government, it's just not possible for any large number of people to keep their mouths shut about anything forever. If there were "real aliens" we would have known about them by now.
Look at the murder on your president Kennedy, even after so many years the lips are still sealed. There are many people who came forward. There have even been death bed confessions from people who where involved with the Roswell incident. An amazing example in 1994 in Zimbabwe where many children where witness of seeing a UFO and extraterrestrial beings, well researched case, you can look it up, kids who are grown ups now still tell what they have seen back then. There are countless cases where people came forward as witnesses, but it's true, anecdotical and no evidence, like you and I have no evidence for what we saw.
Do know this, people who came forward are often ridiculed and outcasted, it is not an easy thing to do. Would you tell the world if you saw an alien? C'mon, your friends will laugh at you, you will be a joke. Someone will sing an X-Files tune while you are telling it. And about governments, if you are working for an 'above top secret' UFO organisation in your country and you have evidence you want to leak to the outside world, what do you think will happen to you and your family? People's life are destroyed for less. For way less than that. Why the risk, what is there to gain. They will never tell, that's why there will be no disclosure, think about the consequences. When modern mobile phones came out I thought "great, now we'll get tons of videos of UFOs, abductions, not to mention Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster...".
Mobiles have been around 20 years and so far... pretty much nothing.
Yes, with the advent of generative video we're getting more and more very convincing fakes, but nothing real that can be examined. As always, skepticism should be healthy and frequent.
Even with the murder of JFK, the rumor mill and conspiracy theorists had pretty much figured everything out over time. And when the records were released last year by RFK, Jr., they aligned with many of the theories.
Eyewitnesses to events are not the rock solid evidence people think. Memories shift and change, from hour to hour and day to day. Investigators, lawyers and police have known this for years. They consider physical evidence to be more credible than fuzzy and unreliable eyewitness statements.
If I saw a real alien and failed to take photos or video of my encounter, I might just consider forgetting the whole thing.
And you don’t think this picture is rock solid evidence?
I may have to rethink everything now.
Isn't that how the CIA operates every day? There are lots of "dirty operations" but CIA people know to keep quiet, or else...
That's the theory, but I think at any given time someone or some group of people know things we don't know and the truth gets out eventually. I remember reading a story about the author Tom Clancy, who collected information about military operations and he'd "fill in the blanks" on his own... then people in those government organizations would ask him how he knew about something that was top secret. With just a little common sense and the ability to read situations, people are capable of figuring out almost anything.
That's what they want you to believe.
But what do the aliens want us to believe?
Surley they want us to believe in Capitalism...?
