What are your favorite acoustic bass plugins/instruments?
I’m looking for acoustic bass instrument plugins and related effects. I’ve really been digging MODO Bass on Mac, but haven’t found my iOS alternative.
GeoShred GeoPizzBass, iBassist and iFretless Bass have been my go to picks. I like running them through Aurora DSP’s Gorilla and Mammoth amps.
How is Madrid in Korg Gadget? Are there any tucked away in a DAW that might be hidden gems?

There’s a double bass Obsidian preset in Nanostudio 2 that I like to use when I need to, sounds great! I believe it was in the IAPs tho so if you didn’t unlocked it it’s probably gone… I also have an upright bass so I usually just play the real thing haha
Madrid is the only gadget that I still use on a regular basis. I’ll say that I like it a lot and find it pretty convincing and easy to play with the velocity layers. It certainly sounds fine compared to my bass playing and engineering, especially in a mix, but I’m not all that great of a bassist ha. It is very tight and instantaneous, and it takes weird effect chains well
It’s still just a gadget, tho, and it is a cute rompler before it is a bass sim. It definitely sounds uncanny if you push it, for example by quickly repeating notes. My personal use is for its thin, acoustic texture compared to synth basses and, as much as I find it charming, I wouldn’t recommend it for its realism. I treat it more like a synth compositionally. In my opinion, it doesn’t sound as convincing as iFretless.
If I can't find a bass I like for a particular piece, I'll usually make one myself using a synth. And there are a LOT of synths (mono and poly) which are capable of building a great sounding bass.
I know @LinearLineman swears by this one IAP in Beathawk (forgot which one, he can fill you in). For me, I do love Madrid from Korg Gadget 3. Can be used as an AUv3. I also love using the slap bass from the Korg iM1 plugin. If I'm not mistaken, it's the Seinfeld bass sound.
In addition to the ones you already mentioned, I use the "total bass" IAP in beathawk (I think that's the one LL uses a lot), and I also use the upright basses in sampletank pro iap often, especially the "upright bass vintage" sounds good for jazz.. I have a few nice bass soundfonts I stumbled upon somewhere on the internet, don't remember where I found them. There are a lot of bass soundfonts out there.
There are some OK ones in Pure Synth Platinum.
I do not like Madrid.
Acoustic bass is tough to sequence well. Like guitar, there's just too much expression to mimic convincingly.
@wim I like playing using GeoShred, MIDI keyboard, or MIDI guitar. Most sequencing for acoustic bass would likely come from iBassist jams.
It’s the Total Bass IAP. It does have some great acoustic and electric bass sounds.
Indeed! And also by the makers of Pure Synth Platinum (Gospel Musicians) check out Bassalicious 2. This is my personal go to for real sounding bass, acoustic or electric.
Btw, If I’m not mistaken, Bassalicious 2 can also still be purchased as an IAP inside Pure Synth Platinum. (Along with all the other IAPs on offer)
I like Madrid. I use FontStack with Riffler as a midi generator. Works well for me.
I forgot to add, that I often use Cem Olcay's Autobass app with Madrid. It sounds a bit more authentic to me.
Bassilicious has a very good acoustic bass as does Sampletank (ios).
Also my go to for upright/double bass. There are more than one option in Bassalicious 2 that are good.
Agree about BeatHawk… there’s also SWAM Double Bass and if you’re lucky enough to have Roli Melody still working, Fluid Acoustic Bass is lovely
Just to clarify, the Bassalicious 2 preset pack in Pure Synth Platinum is the same as having Bassalicious 2 separetly. I have both, but if you only have PSP, you don’t have to have separate apps to get all the Bassalicious 2 content.
SWAM double bass has a walking bass preset. Total Bass is my fav.
Is Total Bass an app or a preset in an app? @dav helped… it’s an IAP in Beathawk.
iAP in Beathawk, I think.
Thanks. So many great packs in BeatHawk.
Here’s a little demo of the beathawk total bass IAP sounds. It has 4 main bass sounds, acoustic/electric/synth/urban, and at least a dozen or more presets for each one.

Madrid and Swam double bass for me, paired with amp modeling or other effect processing they have been great
Not sure if @FizzyLizzy27 is looking for an acoustic bass guitar or an upright bass - anyway, I found a good set of recorded and sliced loops to end up the most authentic, both in guitar and bass.
In Gadget, I've used a few REX loops with articulations that I could borrow from different loops for the "dirt" like fingering noises and fretneck touches
