Weeping Sky (ambient piece for 4 guitars)

An original impressionistic soundscape depicting a light downpour of rain.

This started out as an idea for orchestration, but thought it might work on guitar - 4 guitars to be precise.

  • Interesting piece. I especially like the sparseness tone and touch of the intro.

  • Beautiful!

  • Excellent job! I love this one, Paul. :)

This is very well done. Enjoyed it. I’m not a guitarist but love listening to guitar music with feeling. Back in college I use to love attending the guitar ensemble recitals - they were always acoustic guitars only for some reason. Cool ambient track.

  • Thanks for the listen and kind words @Pxlhg @jwmmakerofmusic, much appreciated.

Yes, the intro is the start of light downpour. I was hoping you would notice the meandering interweaving rhythms in the outro. Each guitar has its own rhythmic accent (2, 3, 4, and 5) so they only meet once somewhere in the middle. I thought this would create a 'flowing water' effect, maybe not. It might work better as an orchestral / string arrangement. Thanks for listening.

4 electric guitars playing an impressionistic classical piece is a bit novel - I don't own a classical guitar (nylon strings), but if I did I might well have used it. I haven't tried but it's maybe possible to play this on just 1 or 2 guitars.

When listening I didn't pay close attention to the technicalities behind, I simply enjoyed the beautiful tone on the intro as a listener and guitar lover.it indeed has a flowing aspect to it. I am not dissing the rest of the track which is gorgeous, but I would actually enjoy a lot a full piece made only with the specific tone and playing style of this intro, if you have the time and the will, please keep this idea at the back of your mind!

  • Lovely sounds… I also enjoyed the sparseness of it 🙏

  • Really enjoyed this. Brings back memories of my old college roommate, Rick. He was a very talented guitar player, but very modest about it. He played a beautiful old Yamaha acoustic that we would mic through an old Echoplex into my bass amp. This was long before “ambient” music. We just called it “head” music. We would always get a nice little crowd in the room, and we would toke some Colombian and get laid back. I wish I had recorded some of those jam sessions.

I have been listening to your music for a few years now, but never realized your name is Paul, too. My Icelandic grandmother was very dominant, and I was almost named Gunnar, Magnus, or Bjorn. My grandfather was Páll, which mom Americanized to Paul. That seemed to please her. In any case, it was always easier on the first day of class. Peace, Paul.

  • Thanks for listening @GeoTony @Paulieworld. Glad I could bring back some good memories.
