Loopy Pro help for dummy!

I’m an older citizen and I’ve been learning the guitar for the last couple of years. I’m at a point where I want to develop my music skills so have bought Loopy Pro and a number of plug-ins/apps. I hope to build on my musicality by making music!

I’ve watched lots of videos and tutorials. I’ve spent hours studying and tinkering with templates. I’ve done everything I can to understand how this amazing software works but…

Even though I can now build a template whenever I record something in a loop and play it back the sound is inferior to that of the initial record recording. And what’s more it gets when I add a second loop to my worksheet. A third and it gets increasingly worse.

Ive had to learn what a signal chain is, what wer bs dry means but am still unsure about some things like BUS, plug-in and AUV. So Im sure the issue is due to my lack of understanding, skills and knowledge so I thought I would reach out for help.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might do to correct this problem?

With advanced thanks from a frustrated but undaunted old bloke.

Cheers!

I’m only on the Loopy Pro Beta and haven’t dug that deep into it but maybe I can help with some of your questions. First off, we all started somewhere, and welcome to the fun and exciting world of iOS music. Some of this stuff can be tricky to grasp at first and simply takes some time to ‘click’ for everyone, but you came to the right place.

I’m not sure why you are having these audio issues. It could be something in the settings, but I’m speculating. This might be better left to a more LPro advanced user.

    In terms of the wording…

AUv3 is the name Apple uses for its virtual plug-ins, if using a desktop PC they use the term VST, so they all mean the same thing. Plug-ins aka AUv3 are applications (synthesizers, drum machines, audio fx, midi fx, etc.. ) that are meant to be opened inside another app, Like a host app or digital audio workstation. (Similar to plugging a real guitar or synthesizer into a mixer) This way you can open and use any “plug-in” inside any workstation/DAW/Host, allowing you mix and match the apps you want to use, to get the sound you like, all inside one workspace like Loopy Pro.

A Bus is basically a signal path that combines multiple audio signals into one, (for example taking the lead guitar, and guitar chords from two separate tracks and turning them into one signal path) This allows for easier control and manipulation of the audio, such as applying fx or adjusting levels for several tracks at once. A way to group sounds together.

On a side note there are various ways to uses busses but the one mentioned above is the most common. For instance You can also bus one audio source which basically splits it into two, add fx to one, keep the other one dry (no fx) then mix the two signals back into one sound.

Hopefully some of this helps. Cheers and good luck with your musical ventures.

  • Thank you for this and for the words of wisdom!

I feel like I'm piecing together a jigsaw without the picture! Youve given me some edges!

I think @espiegel123 can help further as well. :)

  • @JC_2001 we need more information to help.

Look up how to make screenshots and screen recordings.

First step: use Loopy Pro’s default projects with no plugins. Do you have the problem?

If so, make a screen recording, upload it somewhere and post a link. If the sound was fine:

Take screenshots of your Loopy Pro mixer in extended mode so that we can see all your plugins and routing and mixer channels.

Tell us exactly what equipment is connected and how you are listening back.

Make a screen recording of you SLOWLY going through the steps of recording and playing back.

Which tutorials have you watched? There are many different series. Sone may suit you more than others:
