I-pad + Loopy pro beginner, looking for a hand / My noob questions
Ok, hello, i start my journey with Loopy pro.
First: I´m even totally new to the ipad.
the first thing i have no clue:
how can i chose audio outputs and inputs) other than 1+2 ?...... 3+4 for example.
What i saw that happens in the mixer page. But i could not set anything to go out on 3+4. Same problem with the Inputs. I have the option to select "1" or "2", or "1+2". Nothing more. Is there no setup page like with a DAW ? Do i handle that effectivly on the mixer page ?
Audio Interface: i have a Motu M4 and a Behringer UMC1820 at hand to use with Loopy pro/ I-pad.
again: i´m totally fresh to i-pads. I struggle "there" on most basic things already. ipad air M3. So, any step normal for others can already be a challenge.
I managed it so far, just as plain tests, to bring audio in, record something, send it out to speakers. But not able to use any other in/outs than 1+2

You will be able to choose from any outputs that the iPad sees. Are you sure the iPad is seeing your interface? Is it playing output through the interface or built-in speakers?
it is playing thru the interface
If you ask me so, no, i´m not sure.
But audio comes in thru my audio interface, and goes out thru it.
I had that problem that it would only play thru the ipads speakers, and i have no clue what i´ve made different to make it play thru the interface. But finally it did.
I have no clue where to set things. That´s why i asked the way i´ve asked.
I´m aware of the mixer, and that i have there on the input track to chose a audio input.
But is there no main menu page where one would chose the AI in general ?
As said: i´ve tested it with two AIs, the Motu M4 and the Behringer UMC1820.
With both did i only get to see the option to chose In-1, In-2, or In 1+2, not more.
The UMC1820 is 8 channel, the Motu M4 is 4 channel.
The other problem was recording:
it would record from the audio interface 1+2, but. at the same time also from the microphone.
I was not able to turn off the inbuilt microphone.
so my primary question is: where is the real place to set this all up ?
i´d like to understand the structure, how Loopy is built.
I´m so far only aware of the mixer page. I found nothing else. ( i was looking into the manual)
Which OS version are you running?
To see what input device is being used, open Loopy’s mixer. Tap on the icon at the top of the input channel to see what options it shows.
For the output device, show the iPad’s control center:
https://wiki.loopypro.com/Troubleshooting_Audio_Problems#Checking_the_available_output_devices
my ipad is on ios 18.6.2 (brand new, 1 week old)
ok, interesting:
tapping the mic icon on the input track, it shows me now all four inputs. and besides the "input selection" header i see "M4".
So my M4 shows now up with name.
Seems the power off/power on cycle was here a factor.
when i tap the "M4" can i select now my input source, and thus "not activate" the microphone.
It´s bed time now, can´t check with audio right now.
But i would say my first two stumbling blocks are solved.
But the ipads control centre gives me no options to setup anything vs. audio
( i just extended the demo also. Great that this is granted. even automated. i´d really like to have things running bevore purchasing. I´ll check tomorrow with some real audio )
Thanks alots for taking care of me !
Control Center will show you the available output devices and let you pick. If it show the M4 then in loopy, you will be able to choose any of the M4’s outputs as destinations in the mixer.
ok. I thought you meant with "control centre" the ios one on the Ipad.
Guess you mean the Hamburger (three lines) icon on loopy pro ?
i had there a sub-menu where i could see my AI, yesterday. Now i can´t find it there.
Also: if i record a loop and play it now (today) is the loop NOT played thru the output.
i see the level meters running in the mixer of Loopy (on the track and on the master), but no audio goes to my external speakers ( nor to my interface)
While the source signal is routed thru loopy, then to my speakers.
i have no clue where to look, and why my recorded loop is not transmitting audio past the master track.
( again: level meters are running. On the recordet track and on the master chanel. There is a audio signal playing)
My Motu M4 is definitly recognised. I see that when i hit the upper icon on my input track
Thanks alots for your help !
unfortunately it´s not exactly easy
i mean, i´ve not changed anything.
it was working yesterday. today it did not.
the only thing that changed was, i turn my AI (interface) off when not in use
@sloMo_25 i meant the iOS control center. Take another look at the wiki page I linked to above. It shows how to see in the iOS control center which audio devices are visible to your device.
I suggest that you run through the troubleshooting procedure from start to finish.
Ok, i see.
So there is something weird with my setup.
I´ll try to figure it out. I have now a better initial picture.
Thanks alots Edward
What were the results of the troubleshooting?
Did the OS see your interface?
If not, provide us the details of what exactly is connected to your device.
yeah, just went thru it.
I figured out how "control centre" on the ipad works. I found the settings, my motu M4 is recognised and set. I run a groove box as a test audio source, patched into my AI, then thru USB into ipad ( in-out), then from AI to my speakers. my groove box has no other audio path.
When i run my groovebox can i see the level meters in loopy pro working -> on the input -> and on the master track. Audio comes out and goes -over my motiuAI- to my speakers.
When i record into a loop-field ( these circles) is it showing me recordet audio data in there.
When i play that recordet loop do i see the level meters in loopy pro active on that (orange) track AND on the master bus. But: i get no audio out to my speakers.
All tracks are set to (out) 1+2. Though, i can´t find a way to set a audio out for my master bus.
Fact is: if i play my loop from the groovebox live, or if i hit play on my orange (recordet) loop, does the track level meters and the bustrack level meters look same. So my recordet loop goes also to my bus track.....but "that audio" does not leave the ipad.
While on my sessions bevore yesterday things were playing. i had audio also from the test recordet loops going out.
I am not aware of that i changed any settings.
So there is something i totally don´t understand.
i still didn´t looked at the wiki or videos ( i have to spend too much time at the computer per day right now otherwise)
I usually try first to get an idea of my gear anyway, bevore i consult manuals or so.
again: i´m even entirely new to an ipad. (but not new to audio work. i have a nice home studio since 25 years)
You don't have to use a computer to view the wiki and the videos. You can do that from the iPad.
@sloMo_25 : I am a little confused about what you are reporting.
Audio output goes to the destination set in a channel strip's destination. If Orange is set to go to output 1+2, it will go to your interface's outputs 1+2 as long as the iPad is seeing your interface.
If you launch the Apple Music app or YouTube or something and play something that has audio, is the audio output going out the speakers connected to the interface?
If so, let's try the following to make sure that direct monitoring isn't on and confusing things:
start your groove box playing
Does the audio come out of the speakers connected to your interface?
If the answer was yes, tap the M (mute) button on the input channel's mute button.
Does the groove box audio stop being audible when you mute its input channel in Loopy Pro's mixer.
sorry, i was sidetracked then out of house. I come back as soon as possible.
"I think" it is exactly this. I think i´ve set direct monitoring to on. It must have been this
