It’s very expensive though. Well over 2000 of either pounds, euros or dollars.
Looks really good, but well out of my price range. The only thing I dislike is the colour - I really hate anything grey! Lol
The more I watch on the TR1000, the more I love it! Just over £2200 UK pounds recommended retail. To be honest, I think it's a relatively reasonable price for what's on offer. Just my early opinion:
Pros:
Analog 808 and 909 sounds
Extended parameter ACB
FM
Samples, sampling and chopping
Good build quality and i/o - USB C
4 dual drum channels
Off grid sequencing - first for any TR!
Song mode from the off!
Computer editor from the off!
Proper inbuilt power supply and decent lead
Morphing
Audio and midi over Usb C
Decent sampling memory and storage
Cons:
Audio over usb not class compliant selectable mode yet.
Roland knobs still look a little cheap imo
Not keen on the colour
Price could ruin some marriages!
I wonder if this is the start of Roland returning back to analog.
I can see them looking into more high end analog if this is financially successful, but I doubt they would drop the mass market low price gear like the SP404mk2 type stuff.
I hope this is a success, even though I can't afford it at this time, I think they've smashed this one out of the ball park!
It’s way too expensive for me but it looks like all the drum machine you would ever need.
So many red flags, starting with price
Yep it's definitely not cheap. I don't currently use drum machine sounds enough to make this investment a priority - I tend to use the Logic drummers as a starting place then chop and change and edit the midi till I get what I want. I've always liked the look of using a machine like the TRs and recording a beat live - seen some really good live beat makers and it does look a fun alternative to my more boring tweaking midi approach.
Roland hit it out of the park with this ! I’d love one but don’t think I can justify the price.
I wonder if they will go after the MPC market next and create a Super SP, bigger machine more buttons and pads etc etc. 🤔
If they cannot make this kind of hardware at a reasonable price, they should seriously consider moving their manufacturing to another country.
Overpriced
Serious question & a bit curious. If Behringer wanted to - could they? Would they have to wait a while or what would the story be? Nothing seems to hinder them at the moment.
There’s nothing in there that looks proprietary. TRs have been cloned since forever, sampling drum machines have been around since the early 80s, the form factor doesn’t break any new ground either. If Uli wants to there’s nothing stopping him.
An alternative point of view and one I agree with.
This looks to be an all-time great drum machine. Watched a few videos and was blown away by how many features it has out of the box. Seems like they've done something that Roland doesn't often do, listened to what the people want. It seems to have one of the most straightforward UIs of a Roland product, which is nice, since the UI tends to be my biggest gripes with Roland stuff. It's going to be an impatient wait for me, waiting for those 2nd hand prices to go down. The engineers really knocked it out of the park with this one.
I think Roland listen to feature requests, but usually after design, like with the SP404mk2. Seems they have asked before the design this time!
It is so cool they did this - long overdue. Now update the sh-101 in this grey metal with a rechargeable battery and class compliant usb c😅
I don't really need a dedicated drum machine right now, but when and if I do this will definitely be getting a serious look. The TR-8S is already one of the best drum machines ever made IMO, and this definitely adds a lot to that.
It’s obvious this is the result of some kind of massive internal fight at Roland. I would love to see a “behind the scenes” on the development process… like the f1 “drive to survive”.
For decades Roland absolutely blew off literally EVERYONE to ever bring back analog. Will. Never. Happen.
We created ACB and it’s PERFECT! It’s impossible to tell the difference between analog and ACB (Or whatever emulation they were touting).
Ok… fine, here’s yer analog! Now bend over…
There are a few analog drum machines in this price range: Analog Rytm, Perkins HD-01, Pulsar 23 and this seems to fall in line with these.
And now the MPC Live 3.....exciting times!
You were the one person I thought of out of everyone here that would be visiting their local store to get a good look at this ready to spend 😀
Is there anything you have noticed that isn’t there but you would have liked it to be?
Small screen for a big drummachine.
Exactly! The Live 3 is what I hoped to see from elektron one day, now the Live 3 is Digitone 2 +Digitakt 2 + Tonverk + Syntakt in one box.
If Akai improve the sequencing in Firmware updates, I'll sell all my elektron gear. I just waited too long for this to happen 😄
If it had multi-sample velocity/round-robin, then I might be tempted to have this all in one box… to not have this in a flagship product when it’s in Maschine+ and MPC boxes for over 5 years seems slack. For now I’ll keep my Elektron box’s to sequence analogue / chops / multi-samples boxes.
But it Roland ported over thier Vdrum samples into this thing, I would GAS hard.
