Event Horizon (ambient?)
I have been in a bit of a creative dry spell lately. I got up on Saturday morning and just started throwing things together. It’s all just loops and samples from things I did before, so nothing new. I think I spent two days working on this. Of course I stopped to pee, sleep, and take my wife out for lunch at Emilio’s Tapas. That was great! We shared a bottle of Spanish Tempranillo dark red. Really tasty stuff. Anyway, this is what I came up with. Nowadays, I think they call this ‘ambient’. Back in my day we called it ‘head’ music, and we got high while we listened. I don’t do that these days. It was recently legalized here. It’s only a mile away. Maybe I should take a little drive.

Sounds like the Event Horizon score. Would fit well in the alien franchise. Really clean atmosphere... curious what u used to polish it. My mind won't let me spend 3 days on any track. I'll go from industrial death metal to hip hop in a span of an hour x 13 all of which I upload and never attempt to hear again. lol. Fun stuff tho. Prefer the cavity ambient sounds at the beginning but lost it all at the end with the plucking. I feel the journey tho- darkness to awareness. It ticks the boxes
The image attached to this one is spot on. Got the same thing in my head while listening to the track: an approaching storm and the unbridled power of everything that comes with it. And it didn’t seem to end with a rainbow, more of a lull in the weight, perhaps we are all still in the eye of the storm? Not so much a feeling of dread, but more contemplation.
(If you ever wind up taking that drive, keep in mind the devils lettuce has changed very much since you probably indulged. No more removing the seeds and stems on an album cover and rolling a big fatty that you sit on. The future is NOW)
nice description @Squishy you should write up on more shared tracks.
You are super helpful brother. I appreciate you, great team player would make you a team lead in my org without question.
Right back atcha duder 🤙 @egobeats
I never saw the movie. Someone else also mentioned it, so I did some research. We probably won’t be watching it. A bit too dark for me. We’ve already lived a horror story and we’re just starting to get over it after 25 years. When I started this, I had no plan. When I finished it, I still had no plan, but something told me… that enough, and I just posted it. I think I’ve done much better.. and much worse. This one is just… what’s the word… meh. Thanks for indulging me. From an old former hippie, now turned somewhat respectable middle class community member… Peace, bro.
That gloomy looking image is what I named this track after. The track actually has nothing to do with the movie, or general relativity, or spaghettification. That’s actually a word, but I may have misspelled it. I really like your analysis . Thank you!
A few years ago, our state government realized they could make a shitload of money by legalizing and regulating it. We stood in line with several thousand others waiting for the doors to open. It was actually a really nice experience, and we met some cool people that day. When we finally got in, the dispensary was an ugly old cinder block warehouse surrounded by armed guards. They treated us like shit, but I bought some anyhow. It was nothing like I remembered back in that day, and I never went back. Recently, a new place opened up just down the road called High Haven of Darien. My wife wanted some CBD vape to help her sleep, so I stopped in. It’s quite a lovely place, like a high end candy store! Google it. I wonder how many people today even know what an album cover is!
The stores in NJ are much like the first experience you had. They feel like going to the dmv, pleasant being the last word I would use. A strange comparison to the blacklight posters and nah champa aromas of the friendly head shops I grew up with. And the price, dear god the prices! Really brings home the fact that these are government run and not your mom n pop type familial atmosphere. You are a dollar sign, not a valued customer. So in a way, it’s good this stuff is so strong, couple tokes to catch a buzz, so I don’t have to go there that often haha. But this place down the road from you sounds like a diamond in the rough, and even if I didn’t smoke I’d still try and find a way to be a patron. Gotta support the good vibes when you find them, too few and far between these days 🤙
I'm in Texas and ewveryone thought Joe Rogan being butt buddies with the Governor would get weed legalized. instead, Texas turned him Christian and Maga and I believe he doesn't smoke weed or drink anymore.
I have never listened to Joe Rogan, or any other podcast. I have heard he is very popular. My wife is a devoted Christian. Occasionally, I will attend church with her. I remember the first time I met the other church members. The first thing that caught my attention is that we were the only white people! After a few minutes I completely forgot about that. They welcomed me in and treated me like anybody else. A few weeks later I was baptized in a black church. It was quite an experience. The “church ladies” reminded me of Aunt Esther on Sanford and Son. Praise God! Hallelujah! Afterwards, we went to the pastors house and had a lunch of baked ham, green beans and sweet potatoes. Homemade banana cream pie for dessert. When we got home that night, I felt pretty good about the whole thing. When Judgement Day comes, I just want to be able to say… I’m with her… sir! No petty politics.
Dude, I listened at the right time! I'm buzzed after a good shift at work, and about to get high. I really love this piece of music you made. Well done, Paulie.
Hi Jim! As they say… timing is everything. Be careful. This new stuff is not like back in the day. @Squishy brought back some memories when he talked about using an album cover to separate the stems and seeds, and twisting up a big fat one. We would have a black light with some incense burning, and Tangerine Dream in the background. There were no politics, no CNN, no Fox News. Just good friends chilling. We didn’t call it that. We called it “jamming”, then we would go downstairs and make music for hours on end.
I feel so sad and sorry for young people today. Everyone is expected to pick a side, and hate the other one. This won’t end well if it continues. Supertramp once said… it used to be so nice. I loved Supertramp.
Exactly, and I agree! What you just described was summed up perfectly in John Lennon's song "Imagine". I refuse to pick a side. That's about all I'll say about that since this isn't the right space for politics in this forum.
But meanwhile, I hope you make more of this kind of music.
It's wonderful.
Nice one Paul, almost a track of two halves I thought…
First part ambient, second part moving into laid back jazz. Enjoyed both halves 😊
Nice ambient piece, liked the bass at end of the 2nd part very much. Overall great piece, well done! frenq
