A new single 'On the way to Paris' with GeoTony

On the way to Paris

After our collaboration on my small album "Leap into the unknown" (see elsewhere on this site on the stage page), I asked Tony once again to contribute to this single jazzy-blues track "On the way to Paris." How he plays those SWAM instruments on the iPad is still a mystery to me. I hope that we have been able to capture the atmosphere of Paris a little.

Enjoy listening and let me know what you think, frenq

  • Enjoyed the sound effects Frenq , I wasn’t expecting them 😊
It’s still a bit of a mystery to me how I do it as well 🤔
Many thanks for the invite and your help and suggestions 🙏

  • First thing I listened to after a long day. Nice, laidback blues. Perfect. I don’t usually relate blues to Paris. I had the pleasure of visiting for three days back in the 90s. Saw most of the usual sights. Beautiful city. I closed my eyes and thought of the night I had my portrait done by a street artist on the bridge by the Eiffel Tower. Haven’t thought about that in a long time. Great collaboration, gentlemen.

  • @GeoTony, life is full of unexpected things, Tony, and thank you so much for the cooperation B)

@Paulieworld, thank you Paulie for listening, and I hope you enjoyed the reliving a little bit.

Cheers to both of you, frenq

The SWAMs sound great. very nicely played for sure.

The overall vibe is nice and smokey and dimly lit. The production is spot on. Not sure I get Paris from listening, more soundtrack to an LA cop in New Orleans reflecting on hunting down the elusive villain of the story in the seedy dive bar.

Nice laid back groove. Great collab, guys. Tasty solos. Really like the instrument blend..

  • Thanks for the kind words everyone, like our last collab the vast majority of the heavy lifting was done by Frenq 👌
Here’s a soundbox link for anyone that prefers that site…

  • Thanks for the kind words as Tony already said. frenq

  • how lovely, very relaxing

  • Really good vibe! I agree with the comment that said this feels more New Orleans than Paris, but it's definitely driving music. If I might give a bit of constructive criticism @GeoTony, I absolutely loved the melody you played in the flute part, but I felt at times that the glides were something that sounded a bit too sax-like, with large pitch bends. I'm not saying I'd do better by the way haha! I suppose it's really a lifetime's work to polish the playing technique on each of those different Audio Modeling or Geoshred instruments, if you're going for realism.

  • No problem @Gavinski , I do try (largely) to be faithful to what the instrument can do in real life. TBH I’m not that well up on what a flute can do so I’m not sure what glides are appropriate… a bit of googling required I think. Thanks for the listen and taking the time to comment 👍

  • Hi @Gavinski, I thought it had a kind of film noir, bluesy jazz vibe, hence the title. Personally, New Orleans makes me think more of the Nevill Brothers. Everyone has their own experience, right? But thanks so much for listening, frenq :)

  • Hi @belldu, thanks for listening and I totally agree with you, frenq B)

  • Geo tony definitely has a great sense of phasing. Always impressed with vibe he gets out of those swam instruments. Nice job guys the mix good the kick drum just sounded real good to me crisp and clear

  • Good job lads. Top playing. Each chorus has a different character which is tough to do with just the two of you.

If it helps, with all the credibility of someone who passed grade III flute in 1970 😊, I’d say it’s only possible to bend a note just short of a semitone down using flute embouchure. Saxes have a bit more bend range but too much ‘scooping’ unless you mean to do it, is associated with poor intonation.

  • @AndyHoneybone thanks for listening and as far as the flute and sax are concerned, you need to be with @GeoTony, I'll pass it on. Regards, frenq.

  • @Jmd8928 thanks for listening and comment. Tony is, as far as I'm concerned, masterful on the SWAM instruments, that's why I like to make music with him. frenq

  • You guys are costing me a fortune, having all the doors widened so I’d get get my big head and inflated ego through them 😊
Thanks everyone and I appreciate the information @AndyHoneybone, I didn’t know that 🤔
