    In the nutshell…
    Audiobus used to be the app that tied the scene together - the basis of what later turned into a standard (IAA) on the platform.
    As such it invited participation from devs (there used to be a section dedicated for devs) and invited discussion about how multiple apps can be used together, which attracted users of all apps. It was always ad free thanks to Michael and quickly turned into the main place for announcements, support and general discussion.
    Probably some will disagree, but imo it was always a solution focused place, instead of social media replacement.
    In the past few years there wasn’t much innovation - in terms of standards - so things kinda settled.
    It used to be more vibrant, but only because we were all discovering novelty.

    I think also even during recent years there was that vibrancy, when AUv3 became a thing, and people were excited to replace old non-AUv3 apps with AUv3 ones. Definitely now that that excitement has (probably rightly and justifiably) died down for most people, yes, it's far less active here than it used to be. Twitter, Insta, YouTube also have less views and engagement than they used to, so I think that's across the board, it's definitely nothing unique to this forum.

    The pandemic period was crazy active here, I think it was a really important online community for many people here at that time. And people were at home with nothing to do so they were making more music and buying more apps.

    It's true @Squishy that there used to be more participation in the forum here years ago, but it's still a vibrant and lovely music-making community full of many different personalities. It's a far better quality than Reddit, KVR, Facebook, DubstepForums, and Gearspace (formerly Gearslutz). The wonderful people here are actually supportive and helpful.

    (With the other aforementioned online music spaces, oftentimes there are a handful of egotists who will make fun of someone else's music, often paired with derogatory remarks that do f-all to help a producer improve their craft, while others look on without standing up for the person being ridiculed. I've known this from firsthand experience.)

    So believe me, you'll want to avoid online sh-tholes such as those spaces. Michael did a wonderful job with this forum, and the active mods here such as Wim and Doug (TheSoundTestRoom) continue to maintain a good atmosphere here.

    EDIT: In short, this online space is definitely one of the best in terms of music production advice and encouragement.

    ibandstand.com is a cool place to share and collab with other musicians around the world. I joined back in January after @NeuM told me about it (thanks for that, Neum). Not much iPad music stuff there, but a wide variety of songs are shared.

    I gave it a quick look and it looks like a welcoming place. I’m surprised I never heard of it before, or maybe I did and the “i” part didn’t make me take it seriously, because back in the days of i-this and i-that it became a meme

    After you create your account there, you'll can click on the "Backstage" button (see attached image) and then the "Music" button. That's where you can upload your own music and set your preferences on sharing your stuff.

    I suppose so, maybe, I wouldn't know. But what "the norm" is, there are so many scales that find there way into popular music. Metal has all sorts of unusual harmonic choices. There is a scales app mentioned in the bargains thread at preset. I just randomly selected 5 scales in E and 3 out of the 5 had a different fifth. I'm not arguing, and if you are talking about something specific I might be missing the point. Just that to me, scales with variable intervals are more the norm than the exception.

    I wank on it way too much and I'm sure people are sick of me saying it but I'm sure losing the headphone jack hit the platform really hard. Even in the pre auv3 wave things were hoppin. The whole 'touchscreen mobile electronic instrument' phase was great. There was so much crazy potential.

    I’m a latecomer to this scene only a year old with an iPad 9th gen which has the headphone out…this forum has been very helpful without a doubt, thanks to all here! Dreading the day I have to deal with a newer model w/o the convenience of the headphone out I currently make use of daily :disappointed:

    Agreed on being newer and finding this to be a great community. I guess I missed the hay day of AUv3 introduction and a headphone jack. I find this to be a very friendly, helpful, and welcoming community.

    This forum is probably as good as it gets I reckon ... for the most part it's pretty friendly, constructive and cordial. Yeah occasionally there's a bit of aggro but everyone has an off day now and then.

    I haven’t tried a bunch of forums but there’s a helpful and respectful tone that permeates this forum. I’ve always liked that. Obviously you’ll catch someone on a bad day, or the rare agitator, but for the most part this place is great. I try to maintain that level of respect in the app sales thread and I know several others who work to maintain that level of decency in this forum.

    When people do have a bad day you usually see them acknowledge it the next day too.

    Great community here, and like most communities, it has it's seasons. I hope the Vanilla forum technical issues with updating/refreshing and Dark Mode will be resolved soon -- it's been months now.

    We're all different, and I tend to float around and get different things from different places. I gave up "Big Tech" social media years ago. I never found Gearslutz/Gearspace appealing enough to create an account.
