Mini keyboard controllers?

I’m looking for a mini usb keyboard controller. I’ve got an maudio mini32, and I want that many keys (or more), but even smaller. I need it be functional, but compact. I don’t care about buttons or encoders, just keys.

Any suggestions?

  • Is it about size on the desk or portability?
I've only seen the KORG NanoKey and its Fold version, but they have even less keys.
Maybe use a pad controller and learn to play the different layout, plus use ChordPolyPad to play your favorite chords more easily?
    Launchpad Minis are pretty compact.
XKeys are big but you could chain two XKeys 25.

  • Mini? or Minnie?

    Portability. Appreciate the suggestions.

Micro. My granddaughter would like the Minnie though.

Depends how portable you need and how much you're prepared to compromise when it comes to how the keys feel to play. eg For regularly taking to cafés or parks when you're out and about, you want super portable and slim, like one or 2 xkeys or maybe even 2 little Sensel Morphs. If you just want just light and reasonably small enough to take when you go on holidays but will mainly stay in your room, then 2 M-Vave SMK 25s might do the job. If you're OK with just 2 octaves then one will do, but I quite like having 2 small keyboards,1 for each hand. I move around a lot, so I need to be able to fit things into bags and not worry about them getting damaged. 2 small keyboards, one for each hand, is a tradeoff that works OK for me. I keep the boxes and use them during transport, they're light but sturdy enough as long as I don't pack and unpack them too many times. Just having one 2-octave keyboard would feel very limiting for me personally.

@wagdog you can chain korg nanokeys together. I have two that easily fit in a case about the size of an iPad Air, albeit a little bit thicker.

What about a Korg microKEY 37 (or MicroKEY Air 37, for the BT connection)?

I have no idea how the key action will be in one of those, but if you want portability above all and keys that actually look like keyboard keys, that seems to be one of the main contenders.

But in all honesty, at this point you're sacrificing quite a bit, that I'm not sure if a Keystep or Keystep 37 wouldn't be a better value proposition, even if it weighs a bit more.

Scratch that, I just checked and all of these are wider than the M Audio Keystation Mini 32.
    M Audio: 418 x 105 x 20 mm
    Keystep 37: 550 x 147 x 35 mm
    Microkey 37: 565 x 139 x 54 mm

The Nanokey 2 comes at 325 x 83 x 13 mm, so I guess @mjcouche's suggestion of chaining them together would probably be the best bet.
