Adjust Clip Playhead not working as expected

Hello,

I am trying to create a knob that can adjust my sample play position and maintain it, so when I trigger the One Shot it plays from there.

I thought that the "Adjust Clip Playhead" would have that function, but it currently changes the playing position once the sample is triggered.

Why is it behaving like so? Would it be possible to change the play position before triggering?

One-shots and free loop playheads reset when they play. So, you have to adjust the playhead after play is initiated. You need to put a slight (12ms-ish) ramp on the action, too.

I posted a demonstration project on the Discord

Admittedly, it is a little confusing as it will work if the transport is stopped when you adjust the playhead.

Thanks Espiegel. But can we trim the sample start point with a MIDI Knob?

I am also trying to loop the sample with a crossfade to play chords with the sample. The Loopy sampler seems a bit limited to play Chromatically and Sliced at the moment.

It would be cool if it worked like Koala/Ableton Simpler while having the Native Loopy MIDI Mappable functions.

There is not an action (so it’s not midi-able) to change a clip’s start point. In the upcoming version there is an action to offset the entire clip (rotate it).

Adjust start and end points via actions is likely in the future. But I have no idea of the timeframe. We have a lot planned.

  • Okay will look for another sampler for now. Thank you

Thanks for the helpful video regarding phase lock loops.
I am trying to simply use loopy to play back songs which have two clips. 1 is the music and 2 is a guide track. Loopy does a great job of keeping the two clips in sync when i play from the beginning.

the issue I'm facing is that I would like that the sync gets lost when i move the playhead during a rehearsal. e.g. I need to rewind the song to a specific point (e.g. 1:-00). my guide track is the exact length as the music track. i need the guide track to also rewind to 1:00 - just like in a DAW. when i hit play after the rewind the clips are out of sync with each other and with the master metronome.

    • the playhead control is set to move the playhead for "playing clips"
    • I have lots of songs in the setlist so i need the app to keep the active song/guide tracks in sync.
    • both music and guide tracks have silence at the head.

    thanks in advance for ideas.

Why not just use the timeline sequencer?
It seems to me you could just lay the two tracks in there then move the playhead to where you want it. One project for each song.

  • @humbuckr : the Seek Timeline action let’s you move the play cursor to different locations on the timeline.

I thought about that but I have a lot of time into the current project which works perfectly for our gigs but it doesn't work for rehearsals.

the Seek Timeline action let’s you move the play cursor to different locations on the timeline.

So Looks like there is no way to keep tracks aligned unless I am in the sequencer mode. I have not used that yet but I will give this a try for the new songs we are learning.

    thanks for the help

  • @humbuckr : you can have the timeline sequencer in your old projects but only use it for rehearsals. There are actions to turn it on and off,

I'm trying to avoid a gazillion projects (1 per song). When i select the DAW view with my current 40+ song project Loopy creates an empty lane for each music track and its guide track. I'm hoping to create a series of buttons that unmutes the track pair (music + guide) then sets the bpm and plays the tracks from the DAW. is that a workable approach?

Definitely not the way I'd do it, and I can think of some real potential problems. But technically you should be able to use buttons in that way.

    Each button would:
    1. Mute all clips.
    2. Solo the two clips you need.
    3. Set project tempo? (With time stretching on for the loops this could be a real bad idea. Without time stretching, I'm not at all sure how the bar grid and seek actions will work.)

Loopy is specifically designed with the ability to switch smoothly between projects. It's not really designed to handle a lot of long tracks in the timeline sequencer.

I'm curious why one project per song is an unattractive idea.

@humbuckr - if not wanting to change instrument / fx / midi setup for each project is the reason, then you could have a master project, with a Loopy AUv3 plugin instance loaded. Then you could use the plugin instance to load single song projects each with just the music track and guide track on the timeline sequencer. You would do your timeline navigation in the plugin instance.

btw, with separate projects, you can make set lists and take advantage of smooth transitions between projects for live work too.

  • wim - I took the threads advice and am going to create separate projects for each song and use the setlist functionality. I realize there are too many ways to screw up any single song by using a monolithic master project. thanks for the good ideas

I hope it works out. Out of curiosity, were you going to have a master project, then use a Loopy AUv3 instance to load the setlist projects? Or just have separate projects all in the standalone?

(I see your other posts about problems with next and previous load actions. I hope those get worked out.)
