Do We Have Something Similar in IOS? Casio CZ-1 Phase Distortion Synth

Was trying to find if we have a synth in IOS that covers this type of synthesis.

Here a video of this mini synth in action:

  • This question was posed in another forum and Shockwave by Kai Aras was recommended.

Casio had an app but while purporting to be a “CZ-101” it was really nothing like it. The Behringer is also missing some CZ features. I haven’t seen anything like the CZ line. When I was using hardware I always had at least 2 CZ’s. They weren’t as difficult as many say and they could make awesome sounds.

Phase84 is based on Casio’s PD style synthesis. But it’s not an emulation and differs a bit.

    It’s old. But works.

There’s also PhaseMonkey which is much closer to the architecture of a CZ. It even has similar DCO waveforms. And a UI from 1991.

    https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/phase-monkey-poly-synth/id6452880369

I actually still have my first synth, a CZ-3000. Bought new at the time. I’m old.

It’s from 1986 and is 8 note polyphonic. The new Behringer is 3 note poly.

@klownshed Forgot about those. I had them but that was a while ago. I’ll check them out again to see if I have a different perspective. I never had a 3000 but I had a 5000 and multiple 101’s. I loved them.

I’m pretty sure the 3000 was pretty much the same as the 5000 other than the sequencer which the 3000 doesn’t have.

Out of curiosity, what is wrong with CZ App for iPad?

Just my opinion. Asked them multiple times for SYSEX import. No response. IAA only. No updates in 7 years. Didn’t care for the implementation of the envelopes. Asked for factory presets. No response. Instability at times. Was really looking for the CZ hardware experience like a number of today’s apps have (TALUNO, Juno, Waldorf, etc.). Didn’t get it. Otherwise… 😆

  • Totally forgot I had this one already! Been playing it and it sounds great!

Was also looking into Phase Monkey but I wonder if it ever goes on sale.

    I see a 3000 on Reverb for a grand plus 150 shipping. 😄

Yeah, it’s been pretty much abandoned at this point.

Wow! Anybody want to buy a CZ3000?

  • I barely remember but back in the day we were circuit bending Casio synths . Turns out the difference between some models were accessed by switching some pins on the main intergrated circuit.Adding a few switches brought in different features as well as presets. It was fun for sure.
