Can’t download from tonehunt since ios26.
The files app seems to crash as soon as i press download.
If anyone can help.
Maybe a setting on the ipad.
Maybe a files app setting.
I don’t know.
Any help would be welcome.
Thanks.

  • Have you tried just downloading in Safari, letting it put the file in Downloads?

Downloaded in safari but had to copy over to GoodReader on my iPhone. Doesn’t show up in Files.

Edit:Waited a few minutes and now they are in Files

  • When I click on the arrow in safari,I have a black screen and MixBox opens😱.
    Go figure.

Ah sorry. Any files you want? I could drop them over to you and see?

  • That’s very kind,but i’d’like to understand why it doesn’t work anymore😉.
    Thanks.

With MixBox opening I wonder if it setting that as a default. I think there is some setting in Safari Settings that you can either change default app, or remove an app as an option.

Exactly. I believe the trick to change or cancel a default file association is described in this post. I cannot try it since I always wait at least a month for a new main version number.

I tried downloading some files including some from tonehunt that showed up in the Safari download drop down with no file extension although if you look closely at the icon it says “zip”. Usually I would get a file with a .zip extension and a little magnifying glass that when tapped on showed me the file in the files app. Lately, this type of file doesn’t show the magnifying glass and if I tap on it, it opened Ruismaker Noir. To make a long story short, I installed the free version of iZip and when I tapped on the file in the Safari dropdown it opened in iZip and I could move forward from there. I couldn’t see any way to associate those files with the decompress function in Files since if I tapped on it in Safari it would try to open in Ruismaker Noir.

  • Thanks you all for the explanations.
    Very useful.
    Have a great day.

  • Regardless of what app it opens, it should still download to somewhere, Downloads folder? If it is you should be able to open the .nam files from there or from within a nam app. Also, multiple captures are in a zip file so you'll need to unzip first. The only reason I can imagine something changed is that somehow Mixbox took over as the default app for .nam or .zip files.

What I saw from more than one website was that the file showed up in the Downloads dropdown in Safari. However it did not have an extension in the name or the magnifying glass that would usually take you to the Downloads folder in Files. It was not anywhere in Files. Tapping on the file in the dropdown would only try to open it in Ruismaker Noir in my case. When I installed iZip those files would then open in that app. I think it’s a Safari/iOS 26 issue. I never saw anything like this in iOS since I started using it.

I just had pretty much the same experience. I guess I never noticed this as I use Chrome, which asks where to save the file, so no problem like Safari.

  • This is not an iOS26 issue. I have experienced this already for a while now with iPadOS 18.7 too, using either Safari, Firefox or DuckDuckGo browser. The downloads never snow up anywhere. I wonder if it might have something to do with the tonehunt.org site becoming tone3000.com. I never had an issue downloading from Tonehunt before and I still haven’t found a way to download from the site without any issues.

In my case it wants to open the downloaded Zip file (from the Safari downloads menu) into Cubasis, eventhough i have iZip installed as a previous post suggested. I have tried everything i could think of and I just can’t get any working download from this site anymore.

Right. I see this is a real problem on Safari and iPadOS 18.7. The downloaded zip does not appear in the Files Downloads folder, and automatically opens in another app, possibly the last one where a zip was shared (Thafknar in my case). This appears to be a change to the implementation of Safari downloads, which always used to appear in Downloads. I haven't experienced it because I use iCabMobile, which has its own downloads manager.

A workaround is to open another app in Split View, tap on the download arrow in Safari, long press on the displayed filename, then drag/drop it to the other app. The other app could be a Files app folder, or another app that accepts zip.

@flo This ought to work with windows in iPadOS 26 as well.
