This is frankly mind blowing

It’s using the actual firmware that ships with the synth. Amazing.

The AU/VST alpha release is now available on their Discord for VIP members (20€ donation). I got it installed last night and it wasn’t easy to find the rom for that synth - I had to do some sleuthing to figure it out. There’s a hint on their VIP channel that gives the clue you need… part of the fun.

    How does it sound?

  • Even if it lacks a bit in terms of finesse, they have a nice, clean layout for their UI. And the sound is solid.

    How does it sound?

I would describe it as warm, fat, and smooth. One of my main gripes with most VA synths is that they sound metallic and tinny regardless of the preset. The best two I’ve heard so far in this regard are this one and the Novation Supernova 1/2. I’ve owned both and this one has better stock presets than the Supernova, so I think this is going to be my new #1 going forward. This thing really excels at bass, moogy leads, and brass tones. I also really like the Osirus and Ostirus (Virus and Virus TI) from Usual Suspects.

I really hope they can pull off the Novation Supernova. I’ve owned the desktop and rack version and one of the few I regretted selling. Superb sound.

Me too… the architecture would be pretty tricky to reverse engineer due to the number of processors and 8-voice multi-timbral character of the synth.

The last they mentioned Supernova on Discord it was on hold until they rebuilt some of the UI framework that applied to all their synths. This project still in beta.

this is really insane .. virus, microwave, microQ, nord lead2, now JP and at some point in future Supernova..

Damn, those guys really want me to return back to making music on computer 🤣

  • This Ozric Tentacles-sounding jam at 7:19 is exactly the sound that I jones for in a synth. He mentions in the video that the modulation is a bit difficult with the hardware... that problem should be remedied in the plugin version since you can easily control that in your DAW with automation:

I got some of my gear out of storage at the weekend and hooked it all up. Spent ages getting it all midi synced together and showing up on my 16 channel audio interface. Looked at the mess of cables and midi connects, put them back in their boxes and am seriously considering selling the lot.

No longer does hardware sound better than software.
