I've been using the Samsung t7 shield drive. Quite fast and reliable, but a bit $$$
Most External SSD drives from Sandisk, Samsung and Crucial are pretty reliable in my experiences.
I would recommend you get one of the 1000mbs speed drives. Some slower drives can be had cheaper and the faster drives are still at a premium - so the mid speed drives are probably your best bet.
Samsung T5’s and one T7 Shield have proven to be reliable since many years. I work with RAW files in cinematography in the field. Shock resistant, humidity resistant, USB socket still in order.
Since the release of Davinci Resolve for iPad these SSD’s have been in heavy use with an iPad Pro and USB C hub as well. Same flawless performance. Recently a T9 was on sale, so I got one of the more modern ones as well.
For samples, they will surely work well. Any SSD size and company.
Tempted to get one of those as I need an upgrade as well. These seem rugged and I only hear good things about them, and since my goal is long term reliability I’m hoping the investment pays off
it is a good investment. My T5’s are from 2018/19. And they perform in speed as in the beginning.
Is it Mil-Std? Looking for a Rugged one. Some times things falling down… 😞
I was only pointing out that external SSD’s can last long. Even the non-rugged ones like the T5, which I used in the field for many years. Ruggedness to physical impact is one thing. Resistance to humidity, hot and cold temperatures, is sometimes more important.
For a new one I would of course recommend a T7 or T9 from Samsung, or similar SSD’s from other manufacturers. Professional filmmakers prefer SSD’s from Angelbird or Wise, but the relatively cheap T’s from Samsung also withstand the test of time.
In the end we often don’t know what is inside. An anecdote regarding price and contents of flash drives: proprietary flash drives from Red, which are very expensive, contain ordinary memory elements. However, even if the chips are the same, the expensive SSD’s probably are selected and tested before shipping. When buying affordable brand SSD’s, one might run into problems.
Flash memory is complicated. Even expensive cards, SSD’s, proprietary flash drives, can fail. I consider myself as one of the lucky ones who did just fine with the most affordable options.

I wish everyone good luck who is buying new M2’s, cards, SSD’s.
Are there Any difference between Samsung T 1TB or more?
yes, there are indeed different controllers and chips inside. And for continuous recording video this is relevant, and only the larger ones are officially recommended by cinema camera companies. They usually have a list which model of SSD is tested. In general it’s the 2TB and sometimes the 4TB. Sometimes later, the 1TB and 500GB also gets verified, depending on the series. The list gets updated every few months, so it’s always relevant to have a close look at this list. And there are other differences and details. Rather complicated, the whole thing.
But this doesn’t concern music production. You can buy any variant you like. My last purchase was a T9 1TB.
