House Mark 1 - wow!

I don’t know how I missed this as I thought I’d explored all the Audio Kit apps, but I just discovered it this morning.
Now, I’ve never owned a Rhodes and probably played on a real one less than a handful of times. This app, imo, is pretty darn close to the real thing as I remember it, and certainly as I remember hearing it recorded over the years. It’s also very responsive to touch.
It doesn’t have a lot of range. It does one thing, and it does it really, really well.
For $3.99, it’s a no brainer.

Yup. I owned a messed-up Rhodes last century, which is why this is my favorite of this ilk on ios.
This has great praise and it’s auv3, so for the money I guess I can’t let it pass even though I don’t think I need a rhodes in my life
I actually refunded this app cause of the velocity behavior. There seem to be 3 or 4 velocity curves only and the biggest problem is that if you press the keys softly there's no sound at all.
Neo Soul Keys is a lot more expensive but also a lot more expressive, on a completely different league. It satisfied my Rhodes need and sounds the most similar to the real thing or my Yamaha Reface CP
What about apesoft's Electric Vintage?
It only has 4 velocity layers but I find its sound quite usable.
Who is going to sample his Yamaha Reface CP next? 😉
Wouldn't it be faster to just do a 'rom-dump' of the sound rom?!
The AWM2 waveform ROMS are still un-encrypted so it's just a matter of finding a good chip-reader and dumping the content
(Granted even with a rom-dump at hand some manual labour is still needed like chopping and looping the samples etc.).
Yup! House: Mark I has something about it that none of the other EP plugins have; it does this random electro-mechanical “clank” that gives it so much character.
Highly recommended for anyone who’s a fan of those old EP sounds, and definitely a steal at that price!
I also don't like the velocity behaviour. I remember devs mentioned that that's the way the actual unit they sampled from was. It does sound very nice when you play at low velocities as long as you cap the upper velocity so you don't get any unexpected crunchy surprises.
I remember finding a StreamByter preset for midi note velocity. Not quite sure (I don’t code or speak StreamByter) but you could probably set it to avoid the unwanted velocities while playing with the House Mark
Edit: in the built-in presets, it’s called Force Fixed Velocity but there’s another called Velocity Limiter that would probably work better
Yes, Mozaic is another option, also the Midi Curve tool inside Midi Tools by Victor Porof.
Everyone needs a Rhodes in their life. 😀
I did notice the velocity thing with the app. I just play it more purposefully and don’t hammer the keys. I don’t remember the Rhodes I played being so sensitive, but that was a very long time ago.
I’ll look into using streambyter as suggested though.
Also q+d recording
Hip hop drummer, iBassist, and house mark 1. Mixed in AUM wearing earbuds 😀
@wagdog Ha you must have good earbuds cause that sounds really nice
Thanks man.
I’m out in the garage/“studio” right now playing the mark 1 through my pa and just loving it. Mixing it in w/dx epiano sounds from an mx49 and the combo of the two is just amazing.
Alternatively: You must have good ears, bud.
Sorry, couldn't resist
Open mic night is on fridays…
Just kidding, thanks for the chuckle 😄
