Hapax app alternatives
Hi guys,
maybe you are familiar with hardware sequencer Hapax?
It’s on my wish list (I’d love to make tracks outside of mac/ipad as much as possible)
But it will take a long time for me to get one. Right now my budget.. I need to carefully buy apps 😅
Anyway, maybe you could point me to .app equivalent?
Midi sequencer you could make whole tracks in, with cool features, midi fx’s, also easy to master.
If you need me to be more specific, I will try to point to what Hapax podsibilities I’d like achive. But I’m noob, so be gentle 😉
Best wishes

Hapax is great. I don’t think there’s a real alternative in either hw or apps for a standalone sequencer like that. That said…if I had to pick the closest I’ve used, it’s SAND.
It definitely has quirks, is a bit crashy, and the low contrast piano roll is….well, not nearly as visible as a pad grid…but you do get a grid of patterns with automation. It’s more immediate than trying to use the grid in logic and has one of the better automation drawing and auv3 window viewing implementations around imo.
Midicake ARP is amazing too although its stricly an ARP generator.. The updates are frequent and incredible.
If anybody interested, I recall QuantumSequencer. It’s only 4 track, but seems to have a lot of features. Need to dig deeper.
edit.
Drambo heads, maybe there is some cool sequencer patch, with p-locks, probability, chords and transpodition? To name a few
Take a look at Prism sequencer. Seems to cover a lot of similar features.

I will always say Drambo. It’s out OctaTrack and DigiTakt on iOS and iPadOS.
@gusgranite :Prism cannot mix time signatures
Somehow Prism isn’t avaible in my country 😬 but still it would be loss that it cannot mix time signatures
I would just get Drambo since it’s a Seqeuncer and Sampler and auv3 host for all your synths.
If you can’t achieve what you want to achieve in Drambo I’d say it’s pretty much an uphill battle to accomplish it on the iPad.
Any patches to reccomend? As far as I know it’s modular, you need to build what you want
X2! Always!
Let's go step by step.
What are your 3 favorite features on the Hapax?
I will watch a video tonight and come back with a list 🙂
@echoopera : I haven’t taken the Drambo plunge yet because of the learning g curve but I understand that you also use Ableton. Does Drambo come close in terms of its functionality?
No. It's more akin to using a Digitakt or Octatrack imho. It's a Step Sequencer first mental model with a slew of improvements for Midi editing, Sampling, and performance.
OP-Z is another device that resembles how Drambo works.
FWIW, Drambo isn't that complicated if you use it as a Midi Sequencer and Sample mangler and auv3 Host. It only gets complicated if you want to create your own devices natively in Drambo...
@echoopera : Thanks again. Which do you find yourself using more between the two?
Over the last year I've settled on a type of workflow which allows me to easily move between Sequencer based hardware, and Sequencer capable software. So for me my mental model of making music is always the same no matter what I am using to create said music.
"It just works" as they say.
Also, don't sleep on LK from Imaginando.
It's a great MIDI Controller...and doubles as an Ableton Live Contoller:
