My post-punk/noiserock EP written etc. in Cubasis

I don’t post much as there are many far more skilled and informed people here than me. I’ve been doing this for a while though (and lurking lots) so thought “why not?” post my recent tracks.
Guitar and bass played though a pedalboard. Synths, drums and production all done in Cubasis 3 on an iPad Pro

Really interested in any feedback but be kind as I usually leave guitars and production to a band mate

“Mental Floss” is grrrrrreat! 🤘 reminds me of early 2000s bands like Battles, Holy Fuck, !!!. Maybe even Need New Body, early Man Man. Never knew what genre you call that stuff so I guess post punk it is! And I’m all for it. Gnarly tunes man!

Thanks @Squishy I really appreciate you taking the time to listen to it. Bands like those you mentioned are coming from a similar set of influences I think, I love !!!

  • Post away… high energy stuff which made The Electric Amateur even more surprising…
Not my genre but I amazed myself and enjoyed it 👍

  • I really dug this EP. :) Your skill level is definitely refined, and I honestly think you should post more often. The mixes sound a bit "grungy", and that's the way I like it in these types of genres. Keep up the excellent work. I want to hear more. :)

  • Great stuff! So obnoxious, irreverent, and in your face. I love your titles. Your breath is like a breeze from a landfill, and I can’t feel my brain. I’m laughing my ass off and digging it. Make more!

  • Thank you all. I love this place, it’s still the best place on the internet

Definitely agreed. :) This place is indeed wonderful. The people here are generally very helpful and friendly.

  • Most of this is too heavy for my current tastes but another vote for 'Your Breath is Like Breeze From a Landfill', absolutely brilliant. And yes, great to hear something different here!

  • :) the levels are definitely at maximum.

Reminds me a bit of the group Chrome. Chrome played and recorded end 70’s/early 80’s. You may have other ideals, but you will probably like the intros and the collage style, mixing distorted guitars and heavy drums with weird synth sounds. Virgin Prunes, Swans, Coil, Loop, also come to mind.

    Where do you come from/play/record?

  • Thanks @Gavinski, I appreciate you giving it a listen and thanks

@Phil999 I LOVE Chrome, them and a band called Six Finger Satellite (who you may know of, very much inspired by Chrome) are among my biggest influences. Your comment has made my day! I also like Loop. I’ve never got into Coil but my usual writing partner is nuts about them.

I’m in Suffolk, England. Haven’t gigged for many years (but that’s always the plan, to play live again). Record everything at home.

    The levels….noted!

  • alright. Pleasure to know you like to play gigs again. I just got a Hoefner Shorty Violin Bass guitar. And what do I see on the internet? Stephen Mallinder on stage playing a Cabaret Voltaire gig two days ago in Sheffield, playing the same bass!

I’m in Cavardiras, Switzerland. Sat behind the mixing desk usually, but played synthesiser, bass, and did the singing occasionally. Now also recording everything at home. And in the forest in a tipi. Write to [email protected]. Everyone can write me. I want to do small gigs with good people, drummer, bass, guitar, and songs with good lyrics. The electronics and sound can be handled by me…

Yes the Six Finger Satellites like Chrome too. In “Bad Aptitude” they used a riff from them. I didn’t know SFS yet, thanks for the tip. They surely rock on the stage.

I’d recommend this album by Six Finger Satellite, the link is to the recent reissue that includes extra tracks of their more experimental electronic side as well the the more guitar focused main album

I just saw Cabaret Voltaire are touring next year (“the last tour”) and they’re not coming near me but I’ve got to try and see them. Their early stuff gives me the same feel that Chrome does. I too use a short scale bass but mine is a Squire Bronco I found in a charity shop. The action is very high but I love the way it sounds.

It’s a shame you’re miles away, it’s rural here so there’s no scene and (except my usual writing partner) there’s no one with similar tastes. I expect if we ever do manage to play out again it’ll be supporting some sort of heavy metal or grunge band

  • yes, in such a case geography is a drawback. But there is a connection. I never visited England. In my mind I already saw myself with my backpack going there. A 6FS concert in a cellar. One of those images that may not manifest, like many others. But they are present.

Meanwhile, we have a connection via internet.

I have listened to the catalog of 6FS. It appears that the last two releases of older material were recorded to tape?

I think they are great live. The recordings lack the engineering of what made the Chrome records great.

What is also apparent is the thing with the pills. They certainly are not good. What is good is that 6FS manifested their experience in music, for all to hear. I’m certain that when they look back, at older age, understand what it was all about.

If you’re looking at their catalog on Bandcamp, the most recent releases (Severe Exposure and Pigeon…) are their first two album recently remastered and rereleased, the other tracks there are a couple of oddities.

They self produced Severe Exposure and the following albums - Paranormalized and Law of Ruins - Paranormalized is more of the same as SE but improved and LOR goes a bit Krautrock. I think they learnt to produce as they went along so I’ll have to agree with you that the production on Chrome is better/more interesting
