Released: Yonac Inc. Zodiak ECHO Delay & Reverb
"Zodiak Echo faithfully recreates the spacious tape delay and spring reverb combo that ruled the airwaves since its introduction in 1974. Its combination of analog tones, trippy quirks, and organic modulation effects helps you unleash an immense variety of room-filling retro sounds. Augmented by a wide number of modern parameters, Zodiak Echo can cover anything from delicately timed ping-pong delays to twisted aural psychedelia -- at times even morphing into a unique meta-instrument by itself."

Ooooo, a more fleshed out version of the Tonestack Cosmic Echo? Neat, all for it! (Audio demo sounds great!) wonder how well it does the dub feedback oscillations
And that’s number 3 of the Roland RE-201 space echo.. (and maybe even number 4 if we count Nembrini’s 501 Chorus Echo as well). It is competitive priced vs the competition and wonder how this one holds up to Audiothing Outer Space.
Don’t forget Modnetic. We may soon see Audiority’s take on the RE-501 and, if Cherry Audio follows up on their teaser about porting stuff to iOS, another RE-201.
@slush, @Grandbear : I was thinking about what motivates a developer to create an app when there are already three, four, or more alternatives that do practically the same thing. Do they think, "Mine will be much better"?
passion..., challenge..., boredom...?

why do i make music when there are already four or more songs?
Learning experiences, potential to expand it into something more unique, a new offering for people who don’t have anything similar, building blocks for implementation in other apps, etc.
Comparing to Outer Space: Zodiak has a few additional features. Time ramp and presence for the delays, head drift for the play heads, and finer control over the preamp. A lotta people would have the Roland echo in their signal chain and bypass the delay/echo aspects just for the tone/character of its preamp. I think a few companies even made pedals with just the preamp from the 201 haha. So yea, SUPER similar to the other 201s on iOS with a couple little quirks added in (I’m not quite sure what “time ramp” is but believe it’s for dialing in feedback ramping/oscillation, which is neat imo)
Yeah I think I agree with the other comments. I can even see the argument that nailing an emulation of an iconic piece of gear (think of all the Minimoog emulations) can be a great showcase of your DSP and UI abilities.
That’s a good point on showcasing skills. If you can’t design a 201 style echo plugin can you design plugins at all? (No idea if that’s the case, just a view that might be applicable).
It would be like wondering why any new guitar hardware pedals are made.
Thank you all for your comments, it is good to look at things from a different perspective. And I'm sorry to starting a bit OT.
😀
I was impressed with the demo, but since I already have Outer Space and a ridiculous amount of other iOS delays this was going to be an easy pass.
But then I checked the specs...
What makes this one different from the other iOS Space Echo emulations, is this one is also Mac compatible, and I don't have a decent Space Echo on my laptop.
So now it's not such an easy pass for me.....
Mac compatible?! Iphone compatible!? $7?!...that changes everything. Shut up and take my money Yonac!
Yeah, hard to resist - the AudioThing desktop version is £50. I'm perfectly happy with Outer Space on iOS and use it a lot - I probably wouldn't even install the Yonac on my iPAD. I'll wait and checkout the demos first, but I don't have an emulation on my Mac, so for £7 it'll be silly not to.
I really like this. Can get some quite lovely dreamy echos out of this thing. The spring reverb also sounds great.
It drips! 😃
Noticing in hosts like aum, full screening it in portrait mode gives you access to both menus, but in landscape mode it’s juuuuuust too small for both menus to appear. Is this just due to the size of my iPad? Others encounter this on their devices?
Also Yonac support site only provides a link to Facebook for contacting. Anyone have other contact info? @yonac in case they pop in the forum
Same, it’s a bit weird the sizing. Like, there’s plenty of room for it. If you make the AUv3 full screen in AUM, you see everything, but if it’s at Maximized size, which is already plenty big, you have to use arrows to jump from one section to the other, yeah
Oh cool, thanks man 🤙 will just resize manually
I like this one a lot.
Sounds fab I agree
Imo the best emulation so far for getting creative with knob twisting/“playing the echos”. The time ramp knob is such a nice touch 👌
Agree.
Some presets are really good sounding.
Even without the delay, or delay turned down low, just throwing it in there with the saturation on and a touch of reverb really does some magic to round out tone. There's a little bit of CPU cost but worth it.
I like the developer and trust that he's bringing something new and different to the game. Bought it. And I continue to hope Jim Yonac will update and bring all of his synths to desktop.
Tested the app on a guitar and a synth, and really digged it when it got to some dirty saturated sounds

Yeah, it's not the best layout for desktop either as we're stuck in landscape mode, so there's a huge blank space below and the window isn't resizable, so stuck with it.
Saying that though, it sounds bloody lovely. I've turned the dry signal right down and getting some gorgeous soundscapes from it.
Reminds me of the Roland Space Echo which is a monster. There's a channel called soundgas that has a modded one that I've been watching for a while- I'm going to have to score this.
I wonder why you're not seeing the rest of it? There's a section on the lower part missing in your image.
Yep, that's how it looks on my Mac in Ableton. The screen is blank when you open it apart from the topbar, and then after selecting a preset, it opens up the top half with the lower part still blank. I can move between views via the arrows, but the window size is fixed, so stuck with this massive black screen at the bottom. Their Taurus app does exactly the same thing. Both apps completely ignore the Ableton zoom settings as well.
However, the echo app shows both halves in Logic on my Mac, so seems to be an Ableton only issue.
