ButterSynth Removed

I just noticed that it was taken down from the App Store less than two days ago on the 9th. I wonder if anyone knows what happened?

I almost bought it quite recently, but decided on Nambu! My research led me to believe that this would be possible. For such a powerful piece of software, ButterSynth seems to have had a somewhat rocky lifetime thus far.

Wow, interested to know wassup. I install and uninstall it all the time because it’s raggedy, but it cost me like 20 bucks.

Stuff like this and Argon, scare me with getting too dependent on softsynths, somehow they deprecate, but you still have fm7 hardware that will still be reliable in 100 years. Wild

  • It could be a temporary thing…it is not uncommon for developers to not renew their developer license on time.

Have messaged the dev. This happened last year. AppStore dev license renewal again I expect.

  • It’s back

  • I’m not seeing it again. Such a shame this app has been abandoned, if they’d just fixed the bug that makes it crash when used in Logic it would be my go-to every time.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I only had it for a couple of weeks but this was the most unusable synth for the time I had it , although Discovery is rapidly approaching that territory

  • It’s annoying how some synths get glazed and hyped at release, only to turn out to be essentially useless.

  • I removed Buttersynth to make space for an iOS update (that didn’t work).

Tried installing it from my purchased apps list just now, but it says:

“Purchase of this item is not currently available
This item is being modified. Please try again later.”

    Sounds ominous.

  • It comes and goes. I never use it because it’s raggedy and takes up a lot of space, but I paid full price for it and like the idea of having it. It seems to happen often with this app for some reason.

  • I still use it, from time to time, in AUM…very good quality synth, too bad

I just messed with it today and must say it's quite powerful. The filters and envelopes are quite strong. Weird how it didn't get the fame, but it can be unstable. Some of the sounds can be impressive.

  • Crashes every time I use it on my 9th gen ipad

  • I’ve emailed the developer to ask whether it has gone for good. Who knows, maybe it’s a technical glitch of some sort - when the AppStore says ‘this item is being modified’, maybe that means an update is supposed to have been made available?

  • It’s still available on the App Store in the uk, it still works on my iPad Air 4 and 13” Air M2 without crashing. It can only be recorded in a mixdown in Cubasis 3 if Real-Time Mixdown and Freeze is activated in Setup.

Its still downloadable here in US. I ended up deleting it because I just never used it much at all, and it took up nearly half a gig of space which is more precious to me now that I’m back on my older ipad with half the storage. Seemed like a good synth. I dont remember it ever crashing on me.

I thought it was an “okay” synth app (Buttersynth) Never had any real issues with it. I think the dude just needs to make up his mind; keep up with it (keep his dev account updated, as well as the app itself being updated and maintained), or just let it go.

Now Discovery, IMO, is pretty amazing! Especially since we got the latest update that brought the exposed AU parameters.

And not to mention the amount of presets one can find for it.

You having issues with it? My only thing with Discovery, is that it’s a port of the desktop application, with no real thought about touch input. I’m certain an Apple Pencil (which I don’t own) greatly improves the user experience.

Discovery keeps crashing in GarageBand and bringing up error messages saying something about contacting the developer. I’ll screenshot it next time I see it , but it’s not been working consistently

  • Just spent over an hour with Apple Support on this issue.

First, the app was not downloaded after a restore, and it displayed the cloud download icon in the home screen. When I tapped on it, it said it would not download.

Second, when I went to the App Store, and looked under my apps, it did not appear.

Third, purchase was verified in purchase history.

Fourth, in the App Store, it appears as unpurchased with the blue purchase button.

Fifth, while on the phone with Apple Support, and sharing my iPad screen, we went back to revisit the icon. When I tapped on it this time, the app actually reloaded.

Apple Support did say that the developer may be able to affect this behavior.

    I would say try re-downloading.

My take: the developer is a genius but lacks administrative skills with regards to the App Store. It would be wise for them to pay better attention to this type of stuff.

I had a Discovery crash in Cubasis tonight. I have 3 copies in my project that I been working on for 5 days without problems
