Recommendations on AuV3 drum machines with patterns (electronic and acoustic sound)
Hi everyone, I know there have been many threads about this in the last ten years, but I haven't been able to find a high-quality, simple, and intuitive drum app to use with Loopy Pro where I can create simple rhythms with electronic and acoustic sounds, loop them in Loopy Pro, and maybe add individual sounds in another loop, like hi-hats for example (perhaps two different apps, one for electronic and one for acoustic).
It should also have pre-made patterns in different styles so I can get inspiration or delete or add beats, since I'm not a drummer and don't have much experience with it.
I plan to use it for street performances, playing guitar and keyboards over them, adding or cleaning up sounds, and muting with a pedal. I'd use it for blues, ambient, and relaxed electronic music.
Of course, it would have to be an AUV3 file to load into Loopy Pro and sync with the overall tempo of what I'm playing. I've seen some interesting ones like Arturia Ispark (I think it's no longer available) for electronics and One Shot by Klevgrand for acoustics.
I have Groove Rider installed and purchased, but I haven't quite gotten the hang of it. To have midi learn it will be great.
To loop and create rhythms live, I'd like to do it from the pads of my Arturia keyboard via MIDI.
I'd like something intuitive with good patterns in different styles, or at least something that allows loading MIDI files with patterns (I have thousands in Superior Drummer on my MacBook).
I think that while we have a high level of modulation effects and synths in iOS, I haven't found anything excellent for live drums.
Any recommendations?

Use GarageBand, which is free and you already have. There are a TON of drum loops, MIDI-patterns and other resources which you could create, export and then use however you like in Loopy Pro.
That's not a bad idea, but it might not be a very intuitive process for live performance. I have to check.. It's a shame there isn't something like EZDrummer for iPad in AUV3 mode.
If I could find an app with high-quality electronic and acoustic sounds where I could import and edit MIDI patterns witha drum machine, that might be an option. It's not an easy solution.
You'd be loading your premade drum patterns into Loopy Pro to use when you need them beforehand, since you're probably not going to be freestyling while you're playing live. Just an idea.
OneShot and/or DrumPerfect Pro have great acoustic kits. Battalion has great electronic sound design and lets you bring in samples to blend. Battalion has a sequencer and so does DPP but not accessible via AUv3. You can save patterns standalone to use with an AUv3 player plugin.
Have you checked into the Lumbeat apps? There great auto-drummers and Pop Drummer is AUv3. They have a lot of MIDI controls for live fills, jam intensity, etc. with tons of genre specific MIDI beats. The sounds are ok and probably serviceable if not the primary focus, but it pairs really well with DrumPerfect Pro or OneShot like I mentioned earlier. This would probably be the way to go and seems like the use case it was designed for.
Yes, I'm definitely going to look into them.
I´m going to check if OneShot have alredy midi paterns.
How are you doing to pair One Shot with Pop drumer from auto.drummers?
I'm also going to investigate whether I can import a MIDI file into Loopy Pro that I can get from Ableton or EZdrummer exporting the file to the ipad and play it in a Loopy Pro clip with a high-quality drum machine, like OneShot or Battalion. If I can then add some touches to this to play live, that would be perfect.
One-Shot doesn’t have a sequencer, thus no patterns. It is a velocity-layered multisample player only.
Pop Dummer combined with iBassist makes a really nice rhythm section. JustChords (free) is a great lyrics app that does chords and drives those plugins well.
What exactly does just chords do?
You add lyrics with chords and set it up the app as a midi source in Loopy Pro (there’s videos on how to do this) and iBassist will play to those chords. It is a bit of work. One nice thing is you can import songs directly from Ultimate Guitar in ChordPro format. Very flexible system.
Yeah, I got it. I thought the song breakdown was nice. It didn't play any notes tho (in Aum). I'll watch some vidyas on it if my brain allows it.
I agree with the above. You can make a ton of your own drum loops in GB for free, with separate loops with just Hi Hats, Just BD+SD etc to give you options. Loopy pro is obviously ready made for loops.
You can also play the loops in a sampler via MIDI sequences. One note per loop, A bar of a one note = one bar of drums. Easy. You can have a ton of loops in one sampler instrument and play combinations of layers. Maybe the bottom octave is BD+Snares, Second octave HH loops, Third octave fills... etc.
While it doesn’t have built in patterns DigiStix 2 has some great sounding built in kits and the sequencer is very straightforward to use. Oneshot paired with Octachron is a wicked combo but somewhat more complex to set up and program.
Don’t be afraid of programming your own drum patterns - it’s not that hard to get started and you’ll learn a lot.
Agreed this is a great combo. The OneShot expansions are really good and Octachron has a OneShot mapping preset.
Hi everyone, Ghazz the older newbie here,
Wondering which Rock / Pop drum app would be best for me.
I'd like an acoustic set ( electronic sounds not desired) ,
with the ability to sequence beats to LoopyPro.
Something with a wee bit of sophistication, but nothing with a huge learning curve.
What say y'all?
(edit)
P.S. Funds are really scarce freebies preferred.
Thanks
Digistix2 isn't free, but it's a pretty good basic all-in-one choice.
Pop Drummer. Not free, worth it.
Isn’t Pop Drummer free but some features need an IAP?
If it were me I would probably create a live template in Loopy Pro that could trigger MIDI clips with imported drum MIDI files, and then just send the output of those clips to a drum instrument with samples. There are several good methods to trigger the samples, including using Oneshot ($), already mentioned, which you could conceivably control effects within via MIDI From Loopy Pro, or Sitala which requires you to load your own samples, or others which allow you to supply your own samples as already mentioned in the thread. The factors to consider in such a scenario would be how you would change the drum kits, how you might adjust the sounds, the effects on the drums, and so forth.
If you use a drum application which supplies both the patterns and the kits, you then have to deal with the workflow of that app, which may be fine if it suits your needs, but may limit the ability to take advantage of Loopy Pro’s extensive customization abilities.
Note that I have never done a live performance so I’m just theorizing in this.
I believe you’re correct. I think it’s free, and the full unlock is an iap.
Anyway, it’s worth paying for.
Definitely worth the IAP. It’s cool you can demo it for free.
