ipad pro 2018 11" - should i upgrade to ipadOS 18?
i have ipadOS 16.7.2 running on my ipad pro 2018 11". i am ok with it. but i see more and more interesting apps coming that require ipadOS 17 at least.
so i am wondering, whether i should i upgrade from 16.7.2. to 18.7.1 or not. and whether there are good reasons to stay on 16.7.2 for compatibility to older apps and IAA for example.
what do you guys think, would you upgrae or not?

I have the same iPad and everything is working without issue.
I upgraded for the accessibility to newer apps.
thanks! still hesitating for the moment...
I'm pretty sure 18.7.1 isn't an option any more if updating from 16.7.2. I think you'll only be offered iPadOS 26 unless you're on an earlier version of iPadOS 18.
still getting the option to choose between 18.7.1 and 26. that's why i posted here because i guess now is the time to act before i could only upgrade to 26, what i don't really think would be an good idea
That’s great to know. It’s nice to see Apple giving a choice. I’d get to 18.7.1 before you lose the option.
I've been trying to update my Air 4 today, keeps failing though.
How's your Storage? You need 10 or 20 GB free to update on-line. The system may try to unload large apps, but not much it can do with data.
.
just did the update. had plenty of free space.
will let you know whether this was a good idea or not soon...
btw. what would be the best way to find out the apps i missed so far? i remember there was a auv3 database app but i don't remember the name.
edit: just found it - "find that sound"
Should have enough - cheers, will try a reboot, see if that helps.

How’d the upgrade go

the update went ok. some older apps don't work anymore or won't even launch. but the only one that hurts is Orphion. it is crackling very bad. i tried the siri samplerate workaround but it did not work. and playground. had all downloads on this device, that stopped to be available long time ago.
did not test all of the apps though. only those i suspected that could fail.
I was running version 17 and started having issues all of a sudden after 26 was released. I’m not saying it’s related, but it caused me to update my iPhone to 18
I’m think I’m staying with iOS 18 in perpetuity. I’ve heard no good reason to update; I have a new 13inch iPad… will I miss out on sumthin? If I “test” 26 now, can I still roll back to iOS 18?
No, you can't ever go back if you update to 26.
Some possible consequences of not updating:
None of that is to say that you should update, only to lay out the parameters. I'm not updating my iPad for several months. I'll update to 26 some time prior to 27 being released though, unless there seems to be a reason not to. If my phone is any indication, I see no problems with 26 other than finding the "delightful liquid glass" interface more and more cheesy as time goes on.
Apple is still issuing security updates for 18 as of now.
Gotcha, thanks. V. Helpful.
With like a thousand music apps, I'll probably just lock this down eventually and keep it in a perpetual state of the iOS experience. From what I gathered, 26 diminishes that.
26.1 seems like it will be it for me. Before other great apps begin to break down. Just make sure automatic updates for apps and OS is disabled in settings.
Also be sure that it's not install and not download OS updates.
Thanks will make sure.
