And I hope people will give your album another few listen throughs. ❤️🙏
Congratulations on the release of the album Richard 🙏
I caught up on the tracks that I hadn’t heard before… all excellent.
I particularly enjoyed Sweet September Rain and How did it go so wrong.
Also I’m always impressed with the lyrics you come up with, some great lines 👌
I am mostly unfamiliar with all of these “new” genres. Shoegaze is something that Mom did when she took us into town for footwear for the first day of school. I googled it and this it fits the description perfectly. I love that big guitar sound.
Thanks so much for taking the trouble to listen to all the tracks, I appreciate it very much. Lyrics are probably the hardest part of the whole process, but I'm slowly getting better at writing them, with more intention and less of the "if it scans and rhymes it will do" mindset 😆
Thanks - big guitars are the best 😊
Love the guitar sound!
Dark dreamy pop… I really enjoyed it!
Some parts reminded me of The Church also the Charlatans too…
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks - The Church is a band I love, Under the Milky Way being one of my favourite ever songs.
I did a cover of it a couple of years back, it's only so-so, I should redo it some day:
@richardyot i remembered that cover you did…. A beautiful song!

Hi Richard, hope you are well and congratulations on the release of The Voice in the Silence!
I’ve listened through the album twice whilst at the gym this morning (OK…that included walking there and back). Really enjoyed it. I can tell you have poured your heart and soul into this, and can imagine you agonising over the countless decisions that need to be made in the making of an album, from all the mixing options to the running order.
What strikes me is cohesiveness. There is a common musical thread running throughout which sows the album together; it is a true body of work that makes sense from beginning to end. It is well mixed and produced throughout and it was a pleasure to listen to your voice - your singing is the star here. In the past I think you have perhaps on occasion been tempted to bury your vocals in the mix a bit - that 100% is no longer necessary; don’t be shy, be loud and proud!
If I had one suggestion for the future, it would be to try a track or two with slightly sparser instrumentation - perhaps leave out keys, and just add light percussion rather than a full on kit. Have the confidence to let your voice shine.
I’m not going to pretend I know much about 90s music - that decade largely passed me by musically as I was up to my armpits raising kids…(had to look up shoegazer!) BUT I have to say this is a hugely enjoyable listen, which I will return to, as on the second play through I was being rewarded with snippets of familiarity. My favourite tracks so far All the Tragic Lovers (love the Edge inspired intro) and Where Were You.
Thanks Bill, the album was indeed a labour of love put together slowly over the span of a couple of years, I wrote around 40 tracks and chose what I thought were the ten best.
I've been writing and producing seriously for over a decade now, so obviously the work is improving slowly, as well as my vocals which have improved hugely over that time.
I appreciate you taking the time to listen and comment, especially as my genre is not that familiar to you.
The other thing to mention briefly is the fact you did this purely on iOS. After faffing about with my iPad for a few years, I’ve actually gone full circle and do almost everything on desktop now. I just find there are less obstacles to creating, rock solid software and two big screens do it for me. I take an occasional month’s sub to Logic when I’m away from home and still use GeoShred quite a bit, but that’s about it.
After sitting at the desk all day I really don’t feel like making music on the desktop, so for me th iPad works much better. I can mix while chilling on the sofa with the dog, and also for recording guitars I find the iPad way more convenient. Everyone is different though, but I have all the tools I need, and more!
I get that - Logic on the iPad was the game changer, and is a brilliant piece of kit. Fortunately the only time I sit at a desk these days is in my studio - one of the few benefits of being old!!
