ToneX Usable in Loopy Pro?
Hi, I'm relatively new to Loopy Pro, and music on iPad in general. Trying to see if anyone has IK Multimedia's ToneX working well in Loopy Pro for amp profiling on guitar?
When I try to run ToneX as an AUv3n effect on my input channel in Loopy Pro (I use a little 'iRig 2' for interface), I get a HORRIBLE squealing feedback on any amp models that have any amount of gain/distortion. Just a nasty, constant whistle. Only completely clean models will function and be usable.
When I use it as a stand-alone app, ToneX works great. Now, I did notice that in the stand-alone version's settings is a setting called 'No Feedback' which states 'Enable to avoid feedback when using headphones and hi-gain amplifiers or effects.'
- So is this setting, which supposedly stops this feedback, just not working or available when using in Loopy Pro? Any workarounds?!?
- And on a slightly different note, 'should' I be able to use more than one instance of ToneX in Loopy Pro?
I was hoping to have one input channel setup for guitar, with a ToneX guitar amp preset I like. Then another for bass with a bass amp preset. Both channels would use the same input, as I only have a single iRig 2 with 1 mono instrument-level input.
But when I was trying to use it, it seemed like I could only select one preset/amp for both channels. When I would change it on one channel, it would change on the other. How else would I get separate channels setup in Loopy Pro so I can quickly switch from guitar to bass?
Really hoping I can get this to work, as ToneX has great amp sounds for my guitar & bass. But I really want to start using everything in Loop Pro.
THANKS!

The iRig 2 is an interface that plugs into the headphone socket, right? If so, that's your problem. Any time you do any monitoring at all, you're likely to get feedback. It's highly recommended to get an interface that connects through the USB port. These headphone socket interfaces have been uncommon for quite some time due to this kind of issue.
As for the multi-instance question, I don't have the ToneX app, but it sounds to me like you're adding "clone" copies of the ToneX app. That's a feature unique to Loopy Pro that lets you share settings between more than one instance of an app. Most likely, you're adding one instance, then when you add the second one you're selecting the ToneX that shows up near the top of the list, that has an "A" in a circle. When you add another instance in that way, you're effectively linking the two appearances of the app. Instead, search the list or scroll down to find the normal listing of the app that doesn't have an "A" instance letter on it.
You might have some success if you turn on and calibrate echo cancellation in Loopy Pro’s settings. It’s designed for when using the device microphone and monitoring at the same time, which is basically what is being done with the iRig 2, though through the headphone socket.
Still, a USB connected interface would be better quality far less trouble in the long run.
I use Tonex daily with multiple instances and no problems.
Please post screenshots of your expanded mixer.
Also tap at the top of your input channel of your mixer and take a screenshot of the input options.
The squealing sounds like either you have the input level too high or that the microphone is being used instead of the iRig.
If you don’t have tonex loaded, does your guitar record fine in Loopy Pro?
I'm pretty sure the root of this problem is feedback inherent in the headphone jack connected iRig 2. Echo cancellation might help. If it's available for this interface, the setting can be accessed by tapping the input for the iRig 2.
Yeah. I use it also with Loopy Pro in fact used it at church this morning with a dual amp setup in stereo coming out if Loopy Pro.
So it definitely looks like it definitely is feedback somewhere. If you ever wanna get the full tone I recommend getting the Xtone Pro or the smaller Xtone unit which is an Audi midi interface that will connect to your iPhone or iPad via USB and serve as both stomp pedal switch box as well as audio interface!
oooh. That's a nice interface and foot switch combo.
