Picked up Cubasis today
As the title says. Also grabbed some iaps: HALion Sonic Selection, FM Classics.
I spent a couple hours learning this evening, and I have to say, it’s pretty darn great. Having owned a dx7 in the 80s, I’m especially impressed with the FM Classics. The HALion pianos are very responsive as well. Also, the built in plugins are deep, easy to use and sound fantastic.
I’m also feeling like I like recording with the iPad more than a desktop pc. It just sort of works and there aren’t as many distractions. I need to watch some more videos on editing, but I’m finding the interface to be consistent and navigable with little effort.
Anyway, are the other iaps worth it? I feel like I have a pretty full plate to work with right now.

I say get the rest of the IAPs like NeoFM, Waves plugins, the other plugin packs, and Iconica Sketch. (Of course I'm a completionist when it comes to Cubasis and Gadget. 😅 So grain of salt, please.)
Does Cubasis have EQ, compression and a limiter?
Neo FM is KILLER! BTW have you seen “micdropai? Check recent post
Hi @wagdog,
Welcome to Cubasis 3, everything you just mentioned about recording with the iPad more than desktop is spot on, I occasionally use Cubase on desktop but the iPad and Cubasis is so instant.
If you want a really good delay unit, go for the Waves H-Delay, occasionally there is a sale with all IAPs, that’s the time to grab the Waves Bundle as @jwmmakerofmusic suggested, and Classic Drum Machine bundle.
Mike
[EDIT]
I just read on this forum that Cubasis and all IAPs are on sale 👍
Yes 👍
Thank you. Cubasis lets you use auv3 plugins right?
Yep
I did. Seems an interesting app, but not sure I need it at this time.
Neo FM is phenomenal!
Oops, I did get the classic machines, forgot to write that - yes, they are awesome.
Also got reverb and delays.
I’m going to grab a few others today. I feel like I’ll have more than enough to keep me busy for a while.
I have to say that I’m rarely inspired to play music by software, but loopy pro definitely inspired me and now cubasis has done the same. I can’t wait to keep using and leaning it.
Yes Aand it lets you use IAA apps, there are still some around such as Nave, iwavestation, probably more but I can’t remember at the moment.
Thank you.
I’ve got all the IAPs except the Iconica and I use them all the time. I love recording in Cubasis on the iPad and can’t imagine going back to desktop
@wagdog
I definitely recommend Iconica for orchestral sounds. It's very robust, includes key switches for different articulations, etc.
I totally dig and use the Waves stuff all the time.
Well, they got me, went all in on the iaps.
Easily the best sound instruments I’ve heard. Really enjoying the recording workflow and mixing. Effects are fantastic.
Well @wagdog , your and @FlowingRobes ' threads have inspired me to create in Cubasis 3 again and not just use it solely for recording vocals and mastering. It's truly chock full of amazing sounds.
Can someone confirm that track regions cannot be bounced in place? Thanks.
You have to freeze the whole track, then unfreeze. You cannot do just a region. Also you need to check in the settings to not delete the frozen track when you unfreeze.
Just got Cubasis 3, good so far. I’d like to have vocal and guitar channels with FX that I can route to different audio tracks. I just tried via Audiobus 3, but as soon as I load an AUv3 in the audiobus effect slot I lose audio. Is anyone successfully still using Cubasis with Audiobus?
I’ve tried routing my audio inputs in AUM via IAA and that works, but the ‘is anyone still using Audiobus’ thread has given me a revival urge…
I did a couple months ago to use Sopranotron.
I'll give it a try. I don't know of any reason why adding an FX in Audiobus would do that. What FX (in case I have it)?
I tried it and no-go. I did manage to add one plugin that had garbled audio, but most others make no sound at all. I'm afraid Audiobus is a lost cause, but you might try reporting the problem to the developer.
I noticed that the app switcher doesn't work either, so I'm not sure what Audiobus would bring to the table over IAA even if it did work.
Thanks for trying @wim. I was trying with 20th Anniversary, but I tried a few other amp sims with the same result (audio through ok with no FX, no audio once loaded). This was on iPad Pro 12.9 4th Gen, iOS 18.2 with Audiobus v3.6.2. Same for me with the app switcher not working - that's really the bit that would give it an advantage over AUM.
However... also tried on my older iPad Pro 10.5 2017 (iOS 17.7.8) and it does work very nicely on there, app switcher and all, with Audiobus v3.4.5. So... I've spent half the morning trying to resuscitate an old laptop to see which version I have backed up as an .ipa in iMazing, finally found a very old v3.0.14, so probably not worth venturing further on that front.
In the meantime I've bought Patterning 3 and whipped up a new 'simple' template in Loopy Pro and made some music, so have learned a valuable lesson (again), stop chasing lost causes and make more music. Thanks again for your input though, helped the dog put down the bone (still trying to revive the old laptop though, probably equally futile)
@steve99 - I've got the latest pre-acquisition version of Audiobus backed up. I might give that a go just out of curiosity. Maybe test it with another host too. I suspect it has more to do with OS version though. But yeah, time to move on from Audiobus. I have a feeling it's not going to get the love it should unless the subscription model is having more success than I think it'll have.
Now you're shaming me for a poor iMazing backup regime
But, on that topic, is it possible to share .ipa files if both users own the app?
Nope. They're encryption keyed to only the Apple ID used to back them up.
Cubasis is great right up to the moment you try automating something. I really hope for a complete automation overhaul, it will turn it into an awesome DAW.
Yeah, the automation could stand for some improvement in CB3. Hopefully that'll be taken care of with the next major update. Not sure when that'll drop.
