Song Of The Month Club - November 2025

What is the Song of the Month Club?

It's a place where musicians come to give and receive feedback on their work. Anyone is welcome, whatever their level of ability.

The spirit of the club is to contribute: if you submit a song for others to comment on, you should also have the courtesy to listen to everyone else's contributions and give as much feedback as possible. Posting a track and not listening and commenting on others is not cool.

The purpose of feedback is to be honest. Essentially you should give your truthful impressions of the song, whether good or bad. Negative feedback, if done in the right spirit and with courtesy, can be the most useful and can help the artist to grow.

All submissions are welcome, don't hesitate if you want to contribute. We like all kinds of music and we are particularly fond of vocals (but of course we still love a great instrumental). If you are thinking of experimenting with vocals this is a good place to get started.

We ask that you only post one song per month in this thread - if you're lucky enough to be able to produce more, then please just submit your strongest material

And finally, iOS is not a requirement for posting here. If you've recorded your song using nothing but a ukulele and a Fostex 4 track, that's fine.

  • My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:

    We saw the signs
    Along the way
    We didn’t know what they should say

    We carried on all through the night
    Hoping for a glimpse of light

    You reached to touch the fire
    To get a taste of pain
    You grab the razor wire
    To bleed out in the rain

    And I could not explain
    Are we hallowed or profane?

    And here we are
    At close of play
    With all the cards now on display

    We count the chips
    We threw away
    The things we lost along the way

    You reached to touch the fire
    To get a taste of pain
    You grab the razor wire
    To bleed out in the rain

    And I could not explain
    Are we hallowed or profane?

    Cos I saw the monkey that took you my friend
    And it will torment you til the very end

    You reached to touch the fire
    To get a taste of pain
    You grab the razor wire
    To bleed out in the rain

    And I could not explain
    Are we hallowed or profane?

  • This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the English horn, cello, flute, bassoon, and clarinet; Noire for the piano; and Omnisphere and Continua for the background instruments.

    After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.

    It's titled The Marsh.

  • Here we are…November and another oldie for me. I used fugue machine a lot on this one. What a great app

    Very minimal but relaxing listen. The timbre of the cello is beautiful.

    The staccato strings against the staccato piano make for a pretty startling combination, but for me the generative melodies are a bit directionless, I would prefer something with more of a sense of resolution.

  • Good tune @richardyot! The layered guitars are nicely done and give the track a driving energy. I always like tracks that use that lo-fi 'old radio' mic vocal.

    Very relaxing @DavidEnglish, I should try to remember to listen to your pieces last as they leave me at peace and not wanting to listen to anything else. Good visuals as always.

    Thanks for sharing @cuscolima. I'm a big fan of fugue, Bach in particular. For some reason I never got the Fugue Machine apps. Maybe it was iPad only to start, and I'm on iPhone. I see they're universal now, so I'll check them out. Which do you use, Classic or Rubato?

    Cool track @studs1966. Nice chord changes and that solid beat takes you right the way through. Is that sampled vocals again?

  • Here's my contribution this month. An original instrumental created to test out my latest app purchases - Ambiente, Pop Drummer & Zeeon (yes, I have only just discovered this gem).

    Main guitar -> Nembrini Clon Minotaur -> Faceman -> Delay 3000 -> IR Loader (Bassman cab)
    Rhythm guitar -> Nembrini Compressor -> Faceman -> 501 Chorus Echo -> IR Loader
    Bass guitar -> Nembrini Blackice Beta Gamma (You can probably tell that I like Nembrini a lot.)
    Synth Pad by Zeeon
    Drums by Grover
    All -> Cubasis - DDMF MagicDeathEyeStereo -> Ambiente (Studio)

    Nice improvisation, I especially like the bass playing and the synergy between the bass and the guitars.

    I like it! Nice usage of the generative tools. The only thing which I would have changed is the piano which could use a bit more variations (like pauses, changes in expression, etc). Lovely pizzicato strings.

    I'm familiar with the piece of course, from your album, and it's a masterclass in how to develop and hold a theme over the course of a piece.

    yes.. It is a sampled vocal pack?.. I cant afford a real singer?.... :D .. Plus I dont get any Disco Diva drama this way, as the experience I have had in the past ?... Singers dont seem to understand that Vocals are difficult to fix, if its not right in the first place?.. Plus they have a problem when you guide them to improve there technique?.. But even Sampled Vocal packs need correcting also?..:| :D :D

    Nice one! I really like the guitar tone. The volume level is a bit too high compared to other instruments though.

  • @richardyot
    Hard driving opening with a distant voice that’s able to pierce through everything else. Excellent guitar solo. Really like how the voice shifts in proximity at various times. This shifting of perspective seems to be a central theme of the song. And it works extremely well both musically and thematically.

    @cuscolima
    The sudden transition from a hesitant piano to plucky strings is outstanding. Just seems like a natural progression. Add in some brass. Really like where this is going. Now voices. That’s a surprise. Continues with intriguing explorations of the previously established melodies and rhythms. Bravo! A most excellent piece.

    @studs1966
    Once again, you’ve provided a highly polished and professional song. The beat reaches deep down. And the vocals are expressive and well-matched to the song and lyrics. Plus, it’s a catchy tune.

    @pbelgium
    Super guitar sound. It’s like a slide guitar, but more clanky. The song itself is also strong with melodic lines that ring out as authentic, as opposed to something you think you’re heard over and over again. It has a nice relaxed feel to it, as well.

    @unlink
    Really like how this one slowly builds up from a solo piano to something much, much more. And it’s not just the additional instruments. It progresses in new and unusual ways, without it seeming to be forced. It’s also cool how it circles back to the original melodies.

  • Great variety of tracks (as usual) in November.
    It’s amazing how much talent, creactivity and ingenuity there is floating about this forum 🙏
