"I Feel Like Racing" (Melodic DnB created in Cubasis 3 on iPhone)

So most of the sounds in this track are either Halion or NeoFM. The bass was Bleass Megalit (massive sick synth), and the drums were provided by Koala Sampler as a drum module.
It's been too damn long since I last produced a good DnB track like "Splat" which I did back in April, so it was time. Anyways, enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Very good. Lots of stuff happening in the arrangement, cool! When my foot or leg rhythmically starts to move without me telling them to, it’s a good piece of music😊. Quality as always from you.
I listen to all your stuff man, but I don’t comment here as much as I should, sorry about that.

Squarepusher vibes @ 0:46
A lot of energy unleashed in this one, a floor filler for sure.
A little bit on the trance side of d’n’b. It’s really good when that lead kicks in - really takes it somewhere else.
I used to go to d’n’b nights with friends in the 90s, usually to a club that held them in the basement. It was dark, smelled of weed, and you thought the speaker stacks would explode at any moment from the volume of the bass. This is exactly the opposite but would probably have got people on the upstairs dance floor (mostly trance, hardcore, or techno) no problem at all.
Holy shit, time to catch up a little here, lol.
@DMfan No worries about not commenting as often as you'd like. I'm glad you enjoyed my DnB. I plan to make another DnB track soon, probably using BA-1 for the bass rather than Megalit. Maybe also for pads. I wanted more of a "futuristic-sounding" wobbly bass for this piece, so went with Megalit.
@kyrillik That's one amazing compliment. I love Squarepusher! Thank you so much mate.
@richardyot Absolutely.
Ever since that one Dedf1sh experiment I did for FizzyLizzy27, I always wanted to return to DnB. I think now is the appropriate time. Cubasis 3 with Koala for drums both lend themselves well to the genre, but then again I could probably use any DAW on iPad/iPhone. In this case, iPhone 16 Pro Max.
@michael_m Yep, a bit more on the trance side of DnB, but I'm only just getting started.
I'm interested to hear some of the DnB tracks from the 90s you often listened to while clubbing, so feel free to post some Youtube examples below so I can get some more inspo. Cheers and all the best.
Also, I forgot to mention that I made extensive usage of Supersitter in the mix. A rather decent mixing tool for bringing things forward or pushing things back in a mix.
Here you go Jim - in no particular order some d'n'b tracks that stick in my mind from 90s clubs:
Hi Jim. First of all, Happy Thanksgiving! Cool track. Lots of variety with (as Jim Morrison said)… a backbeat, narrow and hard to master. Texas Radio and the Big Beat! Can you tell me more about this Supersitter? I watched a couple videos, but the presenters came off as unserious dingbats. I have been thinking about revisiting a bunch of my older stuff and improving it. The idea of pushing things forward or back appeals to me. Is this something I could use with existing mixes to emphasize things that got lost in the original? I suppose I could just go back and remix everything from scratch, but I would rather keep the originals and just massage them a bit. I would appreciate your input.
Also, if you like racing, you should check out Great Lakes Dragway sometime. It’s in southern Wisconsin. Probably not too far from you. Karen was never a racing fan until I took her there one weekend many years ago. She totally loved it! The nitromethane and tire smoke burns your eyes and it’s ten times louder than The Rolling Stones. We like to go into the pits and chat with the drivers. Last time I got a signed T-shirt from Arnie Beswick. Google Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick. We chatted for about a half hour. Super cool guy. He’s in his 90s and still rocking. Your girl might like it. Maybe the four of us could make a day of it. Keep it in mind.
Peace out!
@michael_m These tracks are amazing! I tried to create something in a similar vein (a track called "Thankless"), but is more electronic sounding. 😂
@Paulieworld If I ever take up driving again, I'll have to check the Dragway out for sure.
Yeah, a lot of Youtube musicians come off as dingbats. In my opinion, Supersitter effectively pushes elements forward or pulls them back. You can adjust it subtly or not so subtly. It seems to use various processes under the hood like EQing and such, but is one simple control to push forward or pull backwards. It's better for individual tracks and not really for mastering imho, but ymmv.
