Saucillator, a free loop-based synthesizer (+ auv3 feedback requested)

Hi all,

My app Saucillator was recently mentioned on the 2025 iOS App Sales & Discussions thread, and folks mentioned that I should share more broadly.

I'd like to introduce Saucillator to the iOS app world. Saucillator was a synthesizer app i built about 15 years ago for Android, and until recently it been on the back-burner but getting decent usage. It was something I always wanted to "get back to" once I had the time. Well, I've made the time, and over the past 2 months, I've rewritten the app entirely from scratch and launched it on both on iOS and Android.

Some of the features of the app:

  1. Totally customizable timbre and effects settings, including filter, vibrato, tremolo, delay, reverb, envelope ADSR, portamento, distortion, and EQ. More being added regularly.
  2. Ability to save custom synths and even share with friends. Community sharing is coming very soon!
  3. Play the synth on an X/Y touchpad or via MIDI controller. Polyphony to your heart's content.
  4. Built-in loop station that mimics my personal favorite Boss RC505
  5. Built-in beat generator to provide some basic back beats while creating loops/jamming.
  6. Record to wave files
  7. Live visualization of waveforms
  8. Adjust scales, root notes, etc - all the usual goodness
  9. No ads. Always free. I don't want your money or your data. I want you to create music.

This app has been a passion project of mine for a while, and I'm luckily now in a position where I can dedicate a lot of time to continue developing it. I'm pushing out new features monthly. It's fairly new the iOS world, so I'd love your feedback or support. Check it out at the links below:

AUv3? Feedback requested

I know this will be the first thing people ask, so YES I am actively working on AUv3 support. It's going well, but truth be told, I'm fairly new to the iOS music world (I've used normal DAWs like Logic/ProTools/etc plenty, but never on iOS), and so I would love some feedback. While I don't want to side track this thread entirely, this seems like a great community to ask these questions to, so I'd like it if folks also can chime in on the below:

Right now Saucillator is designed to be a sort of "all-in-one" tool, having the synthesizer as well as a built-in looper, beat generator, and recorder. It seems like an AUv3 version of this app would probably lose these features and strip it down to just the synthesizer elements, is that right? Or would people expect beat gen and looper to also be in the AUv3 too? I'm frankly a little confused here - it seems like implementing AUv3 forces me to convert my user interface into a sort-of MIDI controller and have it control my synthesis engine. This all seems fine, but it really simplifies my app from a workstation to a synth engine and loses some great features in the process. I am worried about fitting my app into a box that simplifies it too much and removes what makes it special.

A v1 of this AUv3 app may look like using the standalone app to create synthesizers and then just being able to use pre-created synths in AUv3 (no creating/editing in auv3 supported out of the gate). I'm not sure if this is "too simple" though - it seems like folks maybe wouldn't want to switch back and forth?

My general questions: how would you expect Saucillator to function as an AUv3 extension? What host apps would you want to use it in? Are there any comparable apps you'd recommend I reference to understand how they do things and align with Saucillator? Any other feedback you can provide as I go down this journey would be great.

Thanks all! Happy saucin'

Enjoying the app @greennoise Congratulations on the iOS release! Im excited to see where this goes, especially with AUv3 on the horizon. Well done! Cheers!

PS. No rush, do your thing, sure AU is exciting, but it’s still a cool app regardless. It has lots of features and it’s fun to use. Bravo!

    Good Stuff @greennoise

Really gorgeous sounding and looking app and interesting story- a teenage app getting all growed up to compete in the gnarly Apple Auv3 space- the parallels to Predators BadLands is right there (somewhere)

I look forward to seeing you evolve the app and getting some love from the community.

Thanks for porting it to IOS.

  • Maybe it could be separate AU’s inside one app, like Rozeta or a few others, i have no idea how that is done, but maybe each feature could be an AU, just a thought.

Im gonna have to do some more testing and thinking. Ill get back you with some hopefully useful ideas.

Also, something like Core Midi would allow you to use the app as a midi controller with out being AU, it would be in standalone, and then in a host like AUM you could connect the Synth Play screen via core midi, and play or record the midi from Saucillator into anything.

  • There was a thread recently looking for a modern version of touchscaper, and while Sauce isn’t exactly that, it’s takes full advantage of the iPad/touchscreen functionality, something that’s been lacking lately. And like others have said, it’s FUN! Appreciate ya coming over from android, excited to feed this thing through some auv3 fx 👍

  • Great to see this hyped a bit. Definitely reminds us some of the classic early iOS apps that really exploited the touchscreen interface to great effect. well done.

You can leave the looper and beat gen features in the app or take them out. Whatever you think works.

    Main thing is:

    • you can load the app into a DAW as an AUv3
    • and it syncs with the DAW
    • audio output is captured by the DAW

will circulate this more broadly next week after us thanksgiving, but fyi to this thread: AUv3 went live last night! it's a bitter for for some host apps than others imo. interested to hear feedback

  • Love the app, had lots of fun with it! Thank you for making it!

  • The app is lots of fun. Thank you for the work you’ve done.

  • Immediately shared the update in the sales thread when i saw it. Congrats on the update @greennoise

  • Very cool. Thanks for the freebie ❤️

  • @greennoise, excellent work updating to AUv3. Works well. The thing I’d suggest next is opening up the controls as AU parameters for automation in the host app if possible? Thanks for your generosity. Cheers.

  • A fun and exploration of a app very well put together the Looper is a breeze to use and great now it’s AUv3.

    @greennoise

Christmas came early this year thanks to you.

When I saw your intro post on the Auv3 Facebook group this morning while I was finishing up at work, I got super excited. Years and years ago I downloaded Saucillator for Android and loved it, but because I never did much music making with Android, I ended up forgetting about it.

When I saw that your new update not only evolved since then, but is also auv3, boy howdy I couldn't wait to clock out and go home to my iPad and download it. I was so excited when I got home, I was telling my cat, Peanut, "Who's my little Saucillator kitty?!" I do that sometimes when I'm excited about something... like if I'm getting wings for dinner, I'll tell Peanut, "Who's my little hot wing?!"
Anyway, not only did I download it for my iPad, but I re-download it for my android phone (Crazy how for android Saucillator is only a little tiny 2.28MB install size, compared to the iPadOS version which is 92MB, but that's how it is for a lot of iPad/ios apps, they tend to be much larger than the android versions)

Anyway, I tested it out and made a synth patch on my Android phone, then exported it to download on my iPad... made a Saucillator folder on my IPad, then imported it with the IPad version and it worked perfectly! Also it's nice to see that the Saucillator folder I made for import patches, took on the icon image of Saucillator.

Also I loaded it up inside AUM, and using Drambo within AUM as a MIDI controller works great for triggering the notes of my Saucillator patches!

I'm all set! Thank you so much. After a whole month of all these crazy good discount deals and free downloads on music apps and auv3's, your Saucillator easily stands out among the very best of this season.

Not only that, so far this is the only app where I have the ability on my android phone to work on something in my down time away from my iPad, then seemlessly export and continue on my IPad. I can now easily work on patches away from my iPad and then simply import them when I'm behind my iPad and ready to roll. Saucillator is going to be my little buddy.

Thank you so much again, you rule!

  • @brisket hell yeah! thanks for sharing. glad you and peanut like it :). sharing between platforms was important to me and i'm glad you noticed it. I'm going to have an account feature coming up soon that'll automatically sync your synths across devices if you so choose (not required). it will also allow you to download other user's synths as well. more to come!

  • Loving this! Just played with this again… so intuitive and fun 🤩 Not to mention that it also sounds great too.

Awesome that it’s currently free, but very much worth paying for :)
