Show Editor Action only for Audio Clips? SOLVED

edited December 2025 in Loopy Pro

While recording MIDI automation with Retrospect is a breeze, editing is not that easy: you first need to hit the Pencil icon in the left bottom, select the clip, hit the Pencil button in the top right corner, select Rectangle and drag over the Note and do your editing. When finished you need to X the editor window in de left bottom, hit the Close button in the top left corner and hit the Pencil icon in the bottom left corner if you want to continue. Editing a single note takes 6 ‘touches’ across the screen just for entering and exiting. With the large iPads this is quite an exercise.

If only the “Show Editor” action was available for MIDI clips… Hopefully this Action will be implemented soon and not the next paid upgrade lol.

The show editor action is available for midi clips. I use it all the time.

Tip: If you target a button with the show editor action to "selected clip", you can have one button to toggle the editor on any clip once it is the selected clip.

You can also add a custom gesture at the global clip level (I use long-press) to open the editor for any clip without it being the selected clip.

  • Yes I tried this many times but it doesn't work in my recent paid upgrade, only with audio clips. Very strange....

Please post screen shots of the set up or a zipped project that has the action not working.

I have two M1 iPad Pro's, both have the same v2 LP version and on both "Show Editor on Long Press" don't work in this project, so I suspect the project is corrupted. If I duplicate page A or copy/paste all items from page A to B, same problem.

If I copy/paste all items to a NEW project, the Show Editor action DOES work on MIDI clips, but I loose ALL my MIDI bindings, which is very, very unfortunate because there a tons of them, all manually setup because they are not external MIDI commands.

Secondly, if I open the project on my second 13 inch iPad the first time, it couldn't be saved on that iPad, only the 'Duplicate Project' will show up in the file browser. After duplicating though, it can be saved as normal. Please also check this while you are at it.

I really hope you can fix my Project File and I don't have to MIDI setup everything because it would take ages.

Thanks a million in advance if you could fix the file somehow...

PS the MIDI clips are set to "Retrospect Recording" and perhaps my previous post about deleting PC automation when editing a note is related to the file being corrupted? I will check this myself as well: yep it still does (even with just 2 bindings copied to a new project).

  • @hotswank after I download the projects what actions do I need to perform to see the problem?

What do you mean that it couldn’t be saved? Do you get an error message or you save and reopen and the changes weren’t saved?

There is already a MIDI clip which does not respond to the Show Editor Long Press action. The clip is a recording of the upper left most ON OFF buttons, you will see when you hit play. The AutomationBug project demonstrates what happens when you delete or edit the MIDI note (it also deletes the CC data).

You can check yourself by play and touch the buttons and hit the clip within 8 bars (retrospect recording)

After opening the project by double clicking and after saving the project, it did not show up in the file browser, only after duplicating. No error messages.

  • @hotswank : is there a button in the project to show the editor that doesn't work? When i add a button to show editor for that clip it works

A file not showing up in the recents menu does not mean the file wasn't saved. Was the project in the Loopy Pro folder when it was opened by double-tapping?

Cc data being deleted when you edit notes is a bug and we will look into it. I am sorry if that wasn't clear in my earlier response.

When the action is set in general Clip Settings "Gestures" to Long Hold it does not work. It's not just the Show Editor action, none of the actions work on my clips. When set on the clip individually, it does work (just tested this). There is only 1 clip populated with some notes, can't be missed.

The file was not in the browser before prior to opening it.

For a moment I thought the deleted CC data bug was correlated with my file being corrupt, but it wasn't. I uploaded the AutomationBug project file in my previous post about the subject. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. I posted it here to demonstrate that the Show Editor Long Hold also worked, demonstrating it's a problem with my project file.

  • @hotswank: where is the long press gesture you are talking about? Can you post screenshots? The clip with midi has no long press gesture. The grey color has a long press gesture to enable/disable midi destination with no target.

I am not sure what I should be looking at. I don’t see a Show Editor action anywhere.

I am probably overlooking it but I am not seeing it.

If I add Show Editor as the long-press gesture for grey it works .

If I add this it works

    The file originally had this:

Damn, I totally forgot I put that gesture on the Color and of course it overruled any other Clip gestures by design. How stupid of me and I'm very sorry I wasted your time ;-( Funny how my brain works and thought it prolly was a bug because of the other bug. Thanks @espiegel123 for clearing this up.
