@Pierre118 Thank you for your reply! It's clear that these phones support 3D touch in hardware. But I saw information that APPLE stopped supporting this feature in software at some point. I'd like to know which iOS version this happened in. So, if a phone that supports 3D touch is updated to an iOS that doesn't support this feature, it won't work?
I don't think 3D Touch support is dependent on iOS version. It's a function of the hardware.
I suggest you contact moForte with the question though as they would be the only ones to know specifically if it's supported in their app under which operating systems. 3D Touch support is something developers need to code directly in their app. It could conceivably be available in the operating system, but not supported in the app, though that's pretty unlikely.
@wim Thank you! You're right. This is probably the best decision. I will do so.
If you're asking because you're wondering if you'll be safe updating your phone, keep in mind that you won't be able to choose the version, your only choice will be the latest version supported by your device (and also that there's no going back).
@wim Both of these phones are updated to the latest iOS versions (16 and 18, respectively) and are located in a different city, far away. I just need to know if it makes sense to ship them. Especially since I have a decent iPad and I'm completely happy with it. I just wanted to try using 3D Touch for the game.
@wim they deprecated it in an iOS version - I forget which one it was but that’s what finally forced me to give up my iPhone 8 Plus
Deprecated doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. It just means they won't fix it if it does break. IAA has been deprecated and still continues to work essentially as well as it always has.
Xequence 2 is very close to NS2's piano roll and in some ways (notably MPE support) more feature rich. And the developer is still kicking around. We just need Apple to contract him to produce and maintain an official audio unit SDK component, then lean on developers to standardize on it.
Not gonna happen, but one can dream. 😎
Yes, I still use IAA too. This actually broke it in Geoshred unfortunately, because it was awesome to use it with it.
In GeoShred the Guitar model, GeoSWAM and Naada models use 3D touch for both velocity and pressure. Here is a list of phones that support 3D touch. Many of these can be purchased used and are an excellent value to use for a full KeyX/KeyY/KeyZ MPE controller.

I buy used iPhone XS Max handsets in bulk buys of 10 from ebay to give away to influencers.
IAA stopped working for many apps in recent iOS/iPadOS updates. We have seen that a number of app developers are removing it in favor of AUv3.
Ahh that’s where they all went😅
Hi @moForte ! My 3D Touch on my 8 plus actually stopped working after an OS update a couple of years ago. Given that you purchase the XS MAXs for influencers, are you experiencing 3D Touch still working in GeoShred? This was the main reason I kept my 8 plus. GeoShred is incredible with it and I miss it
I'm not seeing this. I'm running the latest GeoShred (*311) on my XS Max running iOS 18 and 3D Touch is working. See this video:

Wow thank you for this - I appreciate you taking the time. I may need to pick up an xs max just to run GeoShred. This app is amazing - literally I gift it to everyone getting into iOS music. Thanks again for your hard work.
You know there is a setting to turn off/on 3D touch in the settings app. Make sure that it's turned on.
Thank you. My iPhone 8 Plus is gone two years now. I wonder if it was an older OS that broke it and then they fixed it again.
I just tried it with GeoShred on iPhone 8 Plus, running iOS 16.7.10 and it works.
But I can understand that Apple gave up on it. 3D touch feels like it only measures the touched surface area and interprets an increasing area as "higher pressure", so depending on how your touch starts, pressure response can be quite inconsistent and you can't start with high pressure and then release slowly, at least I haven't managed to do it.
I guess they'd have to add another resistive layer to the screen, under the capacitive grid, to make it respond like a real pressure sensor.
@moForte Thank you very much! You answered exactly the question I was wondering about.
