dropping audiobus support in koala?
Hi, Marek here from elf audio / developer of koala sampler. How bad would it be if I dropped audiobus support in koala seeming as it would still work as an auv3 fine. It just adds extra work to support it, and would be one less thing to worry about.

I assume you’re just looking for ‘yes, it would bother me,’ or ‘no, it wouldn’t bother me’ overview of opinions?
Personally, it wouldn’t bother me at all.
What's AudioBus?! I'd say drop it and remove IAA support as well when You're at it...
Standalone and AUv3 only wouldn’t bother me go for it.
At this point, no one actually cares for the IAA anymore. Do what you think is the best for Koala. 🤗
Don’t use it anymore, since it was discovered to be full of trackers… drop it boss man…
I use both a lot but don’t know what Audiobus support in Koala means? Can anyone give a use case example? Thanks
Couldn't care less about IAA personally. And wouldn't touch Audiobus with a bargepole now after the takeover
Drop it as far as I’m concerned. Standalone or AUv3 for me. 😎✌🏼
It just means that you can still exchange audio between the standalone version and other apps. You can either do this by loading it in the Audiobus app either as a sender or receiver, then feeding it audio from other apps or sending its audio to them. Or you can also do it by loading "Koala Sampler (IAA)" in apps like AUM. It's sort of like using it as a plugin except it's not in a window, it's running as a standalone app.
You can do all that better and more easily with the plugin version. So unless you're someone who prefers to use only standalone apps, but still wants them to exchange audio with other apps, there's no impact at all.
The standalone app would still work as it is, but would only be able to get live (hardware) audio into it.
@elf_audio, I say it's totally expendable. No doubt there will be a few pissed off people. There always are. 🤷🏼♂️
I don't use audiobus and wouldn't miss it.
As for IAA support, it's almost 2026, IAA was deprecated in 2019, 7 years is a long time...
Would not be bad at all - can't remember the last time I used audiobus.
As long as I can record into it in AUM, do as you will
No problem for me - drop it.
Ultimately do what ever you think's best. It would be good if you were able to use the qwerty keyboard shortcuts that work in standalone to also work in AUv3. I sometimes use IAA with AUM just so I can use the keyboard shortcuts in Koala. It's mainly for navigating between different pages/banks. Another option is make these keboard shortcuts also midi mappable.
I say "drop it". Audiobus was great in its heyday, but now it's simply obsolete to me.
EDIT: Also, anything new and exciting coming to Koala soon?
I wouldn't care if AudioBus was dropped at all.
And as long as I can use AUM for IAA, I don't think I care if Koalas has that either - I only use it that way at preset as it's the only way I have to get Multi-Out channels into Loopy Pro from things like Koala or Drum Computer, but I don't think Koala itself needs to be IAA for that.
Drop it
I think dropping AB3 wouldn’t be a problem, it’s been sold, and will still work fine as an AU so it seems like a redundancy, there are some IAA apps I still use occasionally, but not super common.
+1

Yeah, once Koala became AUv3, Audiobus support isn't as critical. Main reason I still use Audiobus is because of legacy apps. But, in a DAW environment, AUv3 or standalone on the phone is my main workflow.
If you need another data point: I can't remember getting a single request for Audiobus/IAA since I dropped the combo circa 2020.
Kick it to the curb, G!
No problem. No need for AB or IAA. I only hope Koala will keep its low minimum iOS version requirement (iOS 11). It’s one of those apps where I enjoy running them on older hardware as standalone.
I wouldn't miss it...
Just want to shout out the dev @elf_audio for taking it to the forums for a public opinion before taking away a feature though, that’s alotta cool of you!
ah thx alot, that's settled it then!
