Sound off please, who is using loopy pro for live gig guitar looping sets?

I am getting kind of frustrated with Loopy Pro and discouraged. It can be pretty finicky and I am worried its going to train-wreck live. Is anyone using loopy pro live regularly?

I want something as trustworthy as my Aeros but with Loopys flexibility. If there are others who have worked through the learning curve and come out with a dependable gigging setup I would love to hear it. I think it would help to see some light at the end of the tunnel, maybe feel less like I am wasting time just to have to go back to my pedal setup.

TIA

FWIW, as much as I hate Facebook, the Loopy Pro group there seems to have far more musicians gigging with Loopy Pro than one finds here.

The in depth interviews with DubFX, Inby, Kristof7s, and Inkie are inspiring, educational, and confidence boosting. These are some of the top live looping performers today, and they're 100% sold on Loopy Pro after ditching their pedal setups. No guitar slingers though.

There aren't that many people on this forum who gig live. Mostly home producers and hobbyists. There are some though. I don't think you'll get a whole lot of feedback here.

But if you ask specific questions about problems you're running into, you'll get quick and thorough help. Loopy Pro is anything but finicky, but it is complex. If you're seeing problems, I'm pretty sure there are explanations. If not , then bugs and instability will be reported directly and be given hight priority to be fixed.

  • It seems a bit weird advertising for something other than Loopy Pro on the Loopy Pro forum but I’ve been using AUM in combination with Audio Damage Enso (still about to give Circa a spin) for live guitar + occasional looping. So far it’s been a rock solid system for me.

Depending on what aspect of the Aeros workflow you are interested in, there is a project in development that might be of interest:

Enso must be far better these days than it used to be. It used to crash all the time for me and for others. That's good to know. It's fun.

Enso clicks too much on sustained audio like drones etc for me, Loopy Pro handles those sorts of inputs better, but if you're recording guitar phrases with clean starts and ends, I guess it's OK. Circa has the same clicking problem as Enso btw, Audio Damage should work on that, but I guess they're not able to improve it, for some reason.

Oh that’s surprising to read. Enso never crashed for me. But I always only used it in AUM and MainStage on Desktop.

Yeah that’s a bit of a weird one. I mentioned that multiple times to Chris and Adam. Chris seemed to be willing to implement an adjustable crossover time feature. But that never happened so far.
They seem to be too busy with other newer apps.
I’m feeling a bit uneasy about that. It’s been more than a year now..

I guess they can't fix it for some reason, otherwise Circa would have been better in this regard. But it's also flawed. Disappointing, as they're both very nice apps otherwise.

  • I’ve always wanted to something like this but the amount of time I have to spend with my armchair engineering hat on always conflicts with my adhd (when it comes to guitar anyways) too much routing and fiddling around, I lose patience lol

I decided it will be better for me to save up for a nice dedicated piece of hardware like a boss loop station or even a boomerang. The guitar is very tactile and dynamic which lends itself more to a hardware solution for me

  • I’ve “gigged” with loopy once, and it went well. Mind you it was more of a set up at a party and do whatever you want gig. Several years ago I did a bunch of solo gigs with a boss looper. I’m primarily a guitarist but I also play keys.

I’m working towards having enough material to play 2-3 hour gigs, with loopy. Having come from playing in bands or duets, I’m having to adjust a bit, but I think I’ll be ready to be seen in public soon’ish.

Loopy is not holding me back whatsoever, in fact it’s making things easier as I can plan and arrange easier than ever. Most of the hiccups have been me rearranging stuff, gear and app side-quests and generally going down rabbit holes I didn’t need to.

I’d suggest finding a couple of songs you want to do and use those to guide you. Once you get a methodology down, stay with it for a while.

If you describe the workflow you want, I may be able to put together a project for you that sets up the basics.
