Meester Smeeeth x JanKun | "Out of Place"
Music by Meester Smeeeth, Additional coda strings, vocals and lyrics by @JanKun.
Lyrics:
Out of Place
Like another fool trapped in a hole
With the vultures flying around
Like a little boy lost in the crowd
With the closet monster wandering out
No distraction for the hunter
Waiting around
No distraction for the hunter
When the prey is showing up
Out of place
On a golden platter
Pounce like a tiger on the antelope
Come like a bolt out of the blue
Now you're sleepwalking on a tightrope
You can blame it on whatever you want
A movement, a sound, a shadow
You just happened to be there when you shouldn't
While the beast is w waking up
Out of place
On a golden platter
As usual, it was a total pleasure making this with the incredibly talented JanKun. I hope I did his vocals justice! :-)

Nice collaboration. You two should work together again if you haven't till now. Really love the groove on this one. The vocals remind me of an 80s group but I can't put my finger on which one and it's driving me crazy.
Anyway, this is very well done. Loved every second of it.
Ah, I got it. His voice reminds me of Bono's. Musically it reminds me a little bit of Nine Inch Nails.
Beautifully sinister and unsettling, great job both of you.
Great stuff!
Good deal. Very 12th century Alhambra. Lots of influences, too. Even Red Hot Chili Peppers in there.
Thanks for listening! I’m glad you liked it.
Not sure about Bonio but I’ll take Nine Inch Nails everyday! :-)
Very nice! frenq
Thanks Richard! Looking forward to hearing what people thing of it in your SOTMC too!
Thanks for listening! :-)
Such a great track and I'm not even a fan of crunchy drums
I really love the dark mood and the way the voice blends into the track. The change at around 1:50 is one of my favorite parts of the track .Quality mixing and mastering.
That Jankun guy should do some track with me too 😤😝
Absolutely top quality as usual from you two 🔥
That was an excellent recording, I have just listened to it 3 times. I love the early Pink Floyd “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” dark vibe, the vocals are superb, I can’t hear any resemblance to Bono, but it does remind me very much of a song called LUST by a group called Balligomingo, the album is called Beneath The Surface, the vocalist is femail but the song has a similar vibe, Jankun’s voice is very pro sounding and in my opinion every bit as good as in the song Lust. The percussion is also excellent and drives to song along, the whole music is just perfect. I don’t usually rave on about other’s music, but this is an exception.
Great work, no, Excellent work, I’ll give it 20 out of 10 👌
Mike
So THIS is where the song originated from, lol. How the hell didn't I see this sooner? 😂 Your beat and such are superb, and @JanKun 's additions make it complete. Can't wait to hear more soon.
Very cool! Nice arrangement on this - pretty unexpected in places, but it works!
That must come from JanKun then!! RHCP are almost anti-influence to me
Joking aside thanks for listening. I hope you liked it :-)
Cheers frenq
I’m all about the crunchy drums!
Thanks for listening, I'm glad you like it! :-)
Wow, thank you Mike. I’m glad the song resonated with you. I personally couldn’t ask for more!
I’ll have to take a listen to ‘Balligomingo’ — I’ve not heard of them before.
Thank you again :-)
I posted this pretty much the same time as the SOTMC thread.
That's probably how I missed it. Got some catching up with others' creations over the weekend. ❤️ But yeah, your collab here is fantastic!
Thank you :-)
Thank you for your attention! We already have a few collaborations, but this one might be among my favourites

It’s one of my favourites too.
Great work the two of you, I got a bit of a Soft Cell vibe 🙏
Thanks Geo!
Wonderful piece. As mentioned above the mood is indeed sinister. I really liked the descending chromatic line near the end and the way it ends. I was not expecting that (almost) change of mood.
I’m very curious about how you guys work the collaboration. If you don’t mind sharing trade secrets. Do you work physically together? Do you send files back and forth? Do you each have a particular role in the process? Do you talk about a concept first? Does one of you put out a melody/chords/lyrics and the other builds on it?
Thank you!
It is cool isn’t it?! JanKun added that part and as you say it changes the mood (almost) really nicely.
No, we live on opposite sides of the world so we don’t work in person. We send files back and forth. I use Logic on the Mac and JanKun uses Logic on the iPad. Sending projects back and forth works really well as it’s so quick and easy to bounce the tracks to audio for sharing.
In this case the instrumental was pretty much complete when JanKun first heard it. He then wrote the lyrics to the instrumental - the lyrics and vocal melody is all JanKun. After sharing a quick guide he finished up the Vocal tracks and sent me the Logic project — which in this case was literally just my instrumental as a stereo file with his added parts which were all the vocal tracks and the additional strings at the end.
Then it was a case of mixing and bouncing way too many versions before it was finally done. This one was quite a tricky bugger to mix.
I love what JanKun brought to the project. He elevated the song so much — it’s a completely different track now, an order of magnitude better.
I’m really proud of this one!
