The Phrygian scale is missing its fifth tone, @brambos .

I just love this forum. No offence @wim, but your post above is just so symbolic🤣.

We all are a bunch of nerds going after every little detail or fault, some more some less. Sometimes I can go ballistic over someone’s post about IMO some totally irrelevant detail in some app. After chewing on the edges of my kitchen table for a few seconds I have to remind myself that this is EXACTLY the right place for stuff like that, and that the poster most often genuinely see this as a problem in their workflow. And they tell us, which is… great and awesome!

I do however understand that developers might have a hard time here and during the years some have left us. They just couldn’t take the heat. Thank you to all of you developers, @brambos for example, for your patience. We just want your apps to be the best they can be.

I sincerely hope you get your fifth tone @wim👊💯😁.

    🙏

  • Hahaha.. the fifth tone will come back. I must have swapped a one and a zero when moving it around.

Guess that shows how much I care about music theory :D

Alternatively, you could leave it as-is and instead re-label the scale "Dutch Phrygian Hexatonic". It has a nice ring to it.

You know what would be fun? A randomize button in the scale choice section.. pick the number of notes that you want in the scale + hit randomize.. the potential for a complete mess is obviously very high BUT there’s always a chance that one would work and sound awesome.. not knowing what it might actually be called is just fun.. it’s MY scale.. 🤣

    Let's try 13 notes ... turned up to 11

  • I’ve set up all drums to be 12 step patterns, noir 6 steps and both phase and trouble to be 12 steps..in the hope I could essentially make a triplet based pattern…when playing back it appears that there is an additional 4 steps being added on what would be the fifth time of looping the 12 steps.
Is this deliberate or an error ? I was expecting it to just loop the full 12 steps indefinitely.

    ta

well, battlestation is kind of blackhole, it keeps me sucking in and 5 minutes inside means 2 hours in outer world 🤣

Deliberate. Battlestation is fully locked in to 4/4, so drum patterns that are < 16 steps will loop and resync accordingly.

I've been playing around with this since shortly after its release. I would say "Mission accomplished, Bram Bos: you've created something that's fun and fast."

I know you're not looking for more things to do, but here are some anyway:

    1. As of this writing, you can clear a drum pattern quickly, but not a synth pattern. Maybe a long press on the erase button could clear a synth pattern.
    2. Add a way to copy patterns from one synth to another. (I don't have a simple interface suggestion for this, but maybe something could go where the smiley face is now. Apologies to everyone who loves the smiley face: I already had my fill of those in the 70s.) I would still like to choose my own synths (e.g., two Troubles and one Noir).

Yeah i subscribe to this, I already mentioned here idea of synth “slots” where each of three slots would contain selectable list of machines (noir, phase, trouble and eventualy other from bram’s collection, like stripped down version of Hilda, Ripplemaker, and so on) - and not just that but also different kick, percuss, hibats, snares “models” selectable for corresponding drum slot .. That would be ultimate creative heaven :-) Ultimate thing to pay as IAP for it to suport continuing of developement.

This app has massive potential for growth while still preservering simplicity and basic paradigm - I can’t remember for last many years app where I saw such huge potential of growth but simultaneously potential to keep it simple and easy to control. Work of art.

You just have to long-press for the whole pattern length. 😉
I do have trouble sometimes keeping my finger on the right place for the whole length though.

    Awesome jam!

  • Not complaining at all but ... it'd be even more fun if there was more than just one kick fill variation.

  • More fun … let’s share your jams too guys, it literally takes just few minutes , no excuse ;-)

    • Scale overview now reflects the currently selected root note

    Thanks heaps @brambos!

Do you improvise this out while recording yourself or do you have it a bit pre-planned before recording it?
