Restore default loop settings at color and clip levels
Hello,
Unless I didn't find this, it doesn't seem that we can restore the default settings for only one clip, or a color... I just found this feature for all clips (top right menu / global clip settings).
When building a project and tweaking it for days, we make a lot of changing in the clips' settings at all levels (specific clip, colors, groups...) and this could be a real mess.
I think it would be convenient to have the ability to reset the settings of a lonely clip or all clips of a lonely color with a simple press of a button... instead of looking for all the settings that have been overridden and unchecking them one by one for each clip and each color...
That's an idea, but maybe this is already possible and I didn't find the feature ![]()
Congrats for your work and awesome app !

I came here today to ask exactly the same question: how to un-override an individual clip or a color (colour?). I’m trying to understand the dynamical interactions of all the different clip settings by laying out different colors in a test project. I’m totally confused because I’ve lost track of what changes I made where.
I even tried deleting clips that were flagged as overriding the color settings and replacing them with new clips. The new clips adopted the old override settings! What?
Absent a feature like what @Steve77 is suggesting, how can I clean up my clips and colors now without completely starting over? I’m getting some weird behavior with some of the colors.

If you go into a clip’s or colour’s settings, you will immediately see which settings have overrides. Tap on Edit Overrides and remove white checkmarks to remove the override.
Ed, is it that simple? Just uncheck the white checkmarks in the little circles? I didn’t know what those were for and I thought I had to check them to make the function active. This explains a lot of the chaos and confusion I was struggling with.
So if I uncheck everything I find in a clip’s settings, the clip settings will all derive from its color, right? And the same for color settings?
I just found the section in the Manual pertaining to overrides and it is clear as far as it goes. But perhaps how overrides are--or are not--affected by other settings sets could be illustrated with some examples. Maybe overrides should be called “locks” that lock in that setting no matter what color or global settings tries to override them.
This is a quote from the manual. Does this mean that an action can overcome the lock/override?
I think it's better think of it is not in terms of color or global settings trying to override clip settings. That's not what they do. Settings are a hierarchy with the lower levels overriding the higher levels, not the other way around.
Assign Clip Settings makes the settings just what you set in the dialog box for the action. The point being made in that section is that the setting is still overriding the settings above it (color and global), no matter if they're different or not.
Say, you have Threshold Record turned Off in global and color settings. Then you manually set a clip with an override for Threshold Record = On. You could use Assign Clip Settings to turn it back off, but it would still be an considered an override.
Now lets say you change turn on Threshold Record at the global level. What happens to the clip setting? It stays at Off because it is an override setting.
The manual is only saying you can't remove that Override flag with an action.
And yes. It is confusing. I get that the Override flag is useful for being able to toggle override behavior on and off without losing the setting itself, but it adds a layer of complexity that I think isn't worth it.
It's just basically saying "Now I do / do not want this clip to behave in the default way (based on settings above it) for this setting."
If you could flip that switch with an action, it'd be more useful. It would still be real confusing IMO though. I get it myself now, but urrrgh, trying to explain it is rough.
Assign Clip Settings works the same as if you were assigning the settings/overrides manually to the targeted clips.
So, if you assign a setting to a particular clip, the clip gets those overrides. If the setting was already overridden it gets the new setting.
At some point , it is likely that there will be a way to remove overrides via actions.
I was confused by the check in a circle in the settings screens. Even though I’ve been studying the manual as I re-learn LP after a long hiatus, I missed seeing how the override notations worked. It’s not intuitive that the “Edit Overrides” button reveals items some with checks and some with empty circles and what it means to check the circle. I assumed that Playback Settings and Record Settings were areas where I made the changes, and I missed the whole idea of overrides (though I understand the hierarchy concept, in principle).
Maybe it would help to replace the checks and circles with a different icon that signals “this is an exception.”
Actually, I’m still confused. I went through in my test project and unchecked all overrides at the clip and color levels. When I look at the color settings, it still says “overridden by clips 5, 6, 7”. Huh? Shouldn’t that notice go away?
I know how hard it is to write instructions for complicated systems. I know you’re working hard to make this extraordinarily deep and powerful software understandable. Your efforts are super-human and the more I dig into this, the more I appreciate what the whole support team is doing. I hope my comments help you see where a beginner can misunderstand.

Yes, that text should go away. There is a bug that results in that text appearing in some cases where it shouldn’t.
Thanks for your feedback.
