Don’t F With The DJ - A Cautionary Tale

True story:
Two guys decide to open a dance club for people over 80. They hire the best talent they can find. At the grand opening everything goes well for about a minute and a half. That’s when the owners, Random and Chaos, start shouting conflicting instructions at the DJ. The resulting erratic rhythms cause the dancers to start tripping over their own feet and falling into each other. A full-blown riot breaks out, injuries are sustained, and the authorities shut the club down.

Interesting story, great music!
Tremendous track, lovely playing and production 🙏
@jwmmakerofmusic and @GeoTony thank you both for listening and the kind words. Much appreciated.
I have been hearing some great stuff here today. I almost feel like I don't even belong here. You guys are amazing. And your stuff is so different too. It's not the same old same old. Especially this one. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Butthole Surfers and John Williams Star Wars. Excellent!
Fantastic composition! I always enjoy listening to your work (or play). There is so much going on, but everything just works seamlessly. It’s always moving forward into new territory. There was a guy named Rube Goldberg who was known for designing fascinating, complex machines to accomplish simple tasks. As a kid, I loved watching and studying them. I would sketch ideas and show them to my dad, who was an engineer. He got a big kick out of them. One day he brought home a game called Mouse Trap. I don’t think I ever actually played the game, but I loved building the device, watching it, and trying to come up with ideas to add to it.
Your music brings back memories of that. It’s like a complex musical machine that always keeps me guessing… what’s next! I would love to try more things like this. However, when I started this hobby, I made the decision to use only the iPad, stylus, and headphones. I have a few MIDI capable keyboards in the closet and have been tempted to get them out. It would be so much easier to crank out some riffs and build around them. Fortunately, there are some excellent generative tools such as the great Piano Motifs. That alone can keep me busy for hours.
Anyway, I’m starting to ramble. This is a fun listen with an amusing story behind it. Great work. Great play!
@wagtunes - Funny you should say you don’t belong here. I feel the same way sometimes when I listen to the stuff on display here. Most of the styles and genres I just can’t do despite trying. Thanks for the kind words and most of all just for listening.
@Paulieworld - hope your Christmas was wonderful and that the new year brings you peace and prosperity. Your comments and encouragement mean a great deal to me. I would love to be able to make music the way you do. It produces something unique every time but still screams pauliworld. You have explained how you do it and I’ve tried several times but I just can’t. Every time I start out intending to do something new for me, I always end up with something I’ve done before.. Believe it or not this one was an attempt at EDM. I realized it was coming out sounding dated and silly so I just let the silly happen and dictate the story. I’m stuck in a rut now. Don’t know what to do next. Panic is starting to set in.
Oh, I made the same decision as you when I started. My setup is similar to yours only I use earbuds and my finger. I sit outside 95% of the time. But for when I need to get the the buds out of my ears or “perform” something this is my entire “studio”:

Woah, amazing rut to be in! I like it! The panic is working for you imho.
If you seriously do want out of what you see as a rut you could maybe post the stems to a tune like this and see what others do with it. That could influence your future outputs in a good collaborative way. Just a thought!
@AudioGus - an interesting idea. I have never really collaborated on anything before. I wouldn’t know how. Trying to imagine how I would post stems. I tend to build up tons of tracks. I can’t just pick some instruments and hit record. The patches evolve organically with the composition. I might have half a dozen copies of the same patch each slightly different than the others. This piece had 281 tracks by the end. Not all playing at the same time of course but they all had something different on them. I could not in good conscience inflict 281 poorly labeled stems on anyone. I will definitely give this some thought though. Thank you!
