JWM - 122725a (Ambient Created in Gadget 3)

Stereotypical Ambient created in Korg Gadget. The "mid bass" was Berlin, the sub was Chiangmai, and Marseille was used for the pad and for the piano. Yes, I used only gadgets which come with the original purchase to show that anyone can create Ambient in Gadget 3. I made use of polymeters (well, polybars? so, the piano riff was 6 bars long, the pad was 5 bars long, etc). Mastered in Cubasis 3.

  • I knew I was in for a treat before I even put it on. Stereotypical? Maybe, Doesn't make it not very well done. This one was a journey. You should do a whole album like this.

  • Not stereotypical at all. It’s quite nice. We just got home from seeing the latest Avatar movie at Hollywood Boulevard. They serve alcohol and I had more than one, so please keep that in mind. This would fit quite nicely with many of the scenes. I really like the gentle piano melody. I could listen to that all day. I think a nice grand like Pure Piano would sound good. The background drone sounded very good, but I’m hearing some powerful orchestral strings. Maybe a few kettle drums for drama. Karen likes drama. Whether they are 16 or 60, chicks dig drama.

It was a good movie. It would make a nice date night for you and your lady. It’s over 3 hours long, so you would definitely get your money’s worth. A few scenes made Karen cry. The little kid reminded her of Joey. My favorite character was Miles Quaritch. I still haven’t figured out if he was a good guy or a bad guy. Spoiler: he died in dramatic fashion. I hope I’m so lucky.

Anyway, have a great New Years Eve. We will be in bed by 9:00. Peace bro!

Thanks mate. :) I think I'll try to cobble some sort of EP/album together like this. (I'm not much interested in doing a full album, but then again, "never say never". <3 )

Avatar sounds interesting, but I'm going to see "Song Sung Blue" on Monday. The "Neil Diamond movie". Going with some friends, and I'm excited to go see it. :) I also want to see "Zootopia 2" before that's out of cinemas, just so I can get inspired to learn Shakira's "Zoo" on the piano for this one little girl who always comes to my gigs with her family. (She and her family been coming in to see me nearly every week for almost 10 years!!! I've watched her grow up from a toddler. ❤️)

About the grand piano sound, I do like Pure Piano, although it crashed on me a couple times. I'm currently going to use Ravenscroft for the solo piano recordings I'll do in AUM. :) But yeah, I used Marseille instead of Ivory Grand from the Salzburg gadget to show that anyone can use the base version of Gadget to craft a good piece of Ambient.

The sounds from the Gadget gave it a real white Christmas vibe at first, with the heavier bass that follows resulting in a solution for these dark days. Still, I really liked the atmosphere; did I taste a bit of cynicism in the track or is it me?; those holidays are weighing a bit heavy on me. frenq

Great song @jwmmakerofmusic. Would love to see you getting something out using Drambo and a more modular setup!

  • This is right up my alley, Jim. Love it.

Lol, this track had nothing to do with the holidays, which for me are done with for this year. New Year's Eve, yeah, but NYE doesn't weigh heavy on me like "Christmastime" does. (Both my parents being gone makes the holidays so much tougher to get through.) Actually, this piece was just me wanting to make a piece of Ambient to bliss out to. It had been a while since my last Ambient piece, and that last Ambient piece was a little take-off of Eno's works.

I'd love to do that too, but it hurts my brain. 😂 I like to get quality results quickly rather than mess around with virtual cables and the like. Over the years, I've tried to do this in Drambo, in miRack, and in Solderbox. Each time, I ended up with midrange cack. Now, this is not a knock on the wonderful high-quality apps I tried but rather on myself for being too impatient for learning the ins and outs of modular environments. 🤣

I just like to use what I got and rarely get GAS for anything unless it comes from Steinberg or Korg, such as IAPs I want to instabuy. (I'm a completionist for both Cubasis 3 and Korg Gadget environments.) That said, I may try some live jamming in AUM soon. That, paired with apps like midiLFOs and Flux Pro to drive parameters is about as close to modular as I'm willing to go.

Fair enough @jwmmakerofmusic ! I myself love a system with immediacy, it was my criteria #1 for a long time. After diving into it, I fell in love with the thinkering as well. But I rapidly saturate and have to go back to something else.

Looking forward for the AUM live jams ;) When I'm back home from vacation, I'll give Battlestation a try!

  • I preferred the sections with the more prominent piano but overall it was a very pleasant 10 minutes… nice one Jim 👍

I could've sworn I answered you. Goodness me, my brain ain't what it used to be. 😂 Yeah, I haven't dug back into AUM just yet. In Gadget currently. I'm working in Gadget for Jamuary, as well as hoping to snag a remix project from a well-known EDM producer. (I just sent him a short demo of a proposed remix idea.)

Looking forward for the AUM live jams ;) When I'm back home from vacation, I'll give Battlestation a try!

Definitely! Hope your vacation is going/went well.
