It's good that you can still listen to your tracks with Logic even when the subscription isn't active.

    How?
When I try to open a project I get the (re)subscribe popup.

I went with AEMS over Cubasis 3 thinking that all I needed in a linear DAW was the bare essentials for arranging and mixing audio with some occasional midi recording/editing. It's...okay, but coming from Cubase and StudioOne on the PC, certain workflow aspects are kinda infuriating.

For example, moving a single clip is easy enough: simply click and drag. But moving multiple clips requires clicking on the select tool, lassoing the clips, and disengaging the tool before you could move them. If you deselect the clips in the process and want to move them again, you'd have to start over.

Splitting and deleting clips is similarly convoluted. I'm always forgetting to deselect the tool in question and inadvertently deleting or splitting clips. Also, there's no way to merge clips as far as I can tell.

Rearranging tracks is also unnecessarily tedious. You can't just drag a track to a new position in the hierarchy. Instead, you have a "Move track up/down" option tucked away in a menu that lets you set the new position by number. But tracks aren't assigned numbers in the left-hand pane, so if you want to move, say, your track 13 drums to just above your track 2 bass track, you'd have to scroll to the top and count down the tracks to figure out the position number to type in. It would be nice to have the tracks numbered and listed by name in the menu, so even if you can't drag and drop, you'd at least know where they should go.

I'm also always having to go into the grid settings and changing values, but I guess that's part of working with a small screen.

I guess this is more a rant than a fave iOS DAW post lol. But that's a few things that get in the way of a frictionless experience and making me reconsider Cubasis 3.

Maybe Zenbeat ? Once you figure out the navigation on the left which is unnecessarily confusing and a documentation predating the current interface design, it’s a good DAW.

  • Although I am not using any DAW as such on iOS at the moment (DAW like stuff is done in Reaper on my Linux machines), I would vote for Roland Zenbeats. I have used it for a while on both iOS and Android and, although it's not the perfect DAW, I do think one gets a lot of bang for the buck. The pricing model is in my opinion fair. It offers both subscriptions and one-off payments for the unlock. And you get a lot of extra stuff with the different subscription models.

  • N-Track is rarely used here, it seems, yet it’s the only app on iOS that offers such a wide range of features by far: routing, audio editing, effects, and even proper audio copy-paste support on iOS — something very few apps handle correctly. In short, it’s a hidden gem that barely ever gets mentioned. Maybe it’s because the design isn’t particularly attractive and people are sensitive to that. Strange.

  • @alexwasashrimp ”a couple dozen plugins”?? Dang sir, I’ve never needed more than a handful of plugins in Drambo, that’s if I’m even using third party AUV3s in my projects. I’ve been discovering the more I learn about Drambo, the less and less I need those AUV3s. Now it’s only when I have a taste for a specific instrument like for example; a piano or saxophone. (Those traditional instrument sounds that can’t be just thrown together using synthesis quickly)

You must be making super elaborate scores. Got any examples or demos?

Place green time marker where you want to move clips. Select clips. Cut. Paste.

Splitting and deleting clips is similarly convoluted. I'm always forgetting to deselect the tool in question and inadvertently deleting or splitting clips. Also, there's no way to merge clips as far as I can tell.

Go to settings. Under User Interface make sure you’re in Expert mode. Set Split Button Behavior to Action. Place green time marker where you want to split clip. Select clip. Tap split button. To delete a clip select clip and tap Cut. There is no easy way to merge selected clips that I know of. It’s not something I usually do anyway. Check the manual. It’s very good. The merge option merges all clips in a track. Maybe that’s a feature request.

Rearranging tracks is also unnecessarily tedious. You can't just drag a track to a new position in the hierarchy. Instead, you have a "Move track up/down" option tucked away in a menu that lets you set the new position by number. Again, not something I do often. I tend to order my tracks as I’m adding them.

I'm also always having to go into the grid settings and changing values, but I guess that's part of working with a small screen.

Set the grid settings to Display and Snap to Grid. Change the resolution as necessary. Usually when arranging in sequencer I’m using Bars. In piano roll it’s typically 16ths or whatever is appropriate. It doesn’t usually require a lot of back and forth.

The best thing I did was when a “how to do” question came up I went to the docs. Always got an answer very quickly. Usually the “friction” got “lubricated” by the knowledge I gained.

    😎✌🏼

  • My favorite is definitely Korg Gadget, it can feel super limiting at times but it really allows me to get ideas out very quickly.

I should try out Zenbeats though, I have a Roland Cloud premium sub that I can just barely justify keeping active each year. I wonder if you get any Zenbeats perks with that.

Welcome to the forum. I myself have been getting back into Korg Gadget (and goodness knows I should since I have invested money in every last Gadget IAP, all the compatible synth apps, and all all their IAPs over the years!)

I'm really loving the new directions Gadget is taking my music.

All Roland Cloud subs include the max (all platforms) unlock for Zenbeats. So you should be able to start without any additional costa.

  • Korg Gadget still my favorite. Stable, fast and lots of sounds (particularly with the iAPs).

LP surely.. after Ableton Live Suite, Studio One, Logic Pro and Cubase.. Like to modify my DAW and build it from puzzles.. and while owning approx. 170 auv3 instruments and 160 effects, can build a GREAT ’umbrella’ and divide roles and sync with five iPads..

  • They’re all terrible still (venting time)

    All I wanted to do:
set up future drummer as IAA
set up a live guitar chain
    Set up OneShot with multi-out
    put them in ambiente

    In ape matrix:
    Future Drummer wouldn’t load
After restarting FD and ApeMatrix, it loaded fine
But then Ambiente wouldn’t load. Just kept crashing and eventually crashed ApeMatrix

    In Logic Pro:
    I guess there’s no IAA?

    Cubasis:
FD isn’t showing up in IAA
Ambiente disappears when I duplicate a track with it on there

Cubasis was starting to be my go to but 3.8 seemed to bring a lot of issues with it and I’m really frustrated every time I update Cubasis and feel like a beta tester. Logic Pro is great but damn if I still think it’s dumb they don’t have all the features of AUv3’s built in and lack of IAA is somewhat understandable but just one more kink to have to iron out.

Back to AUM and endless horizontal scrolling I guess. I’ve spent 30 minutes trying to set up an auto drummer and a guitar chain and haven’t accomplished anything.

Sorry, I've never touched Logic Pro. That's just what I had read here on the forum some time ago.
More recent searches don't support what I said. Either what I read before was wrong or I misunderstood.

So I guess re-upping for a month is the only recourse if you have to access an older project. Sorry for the incorrect information.

While I wouldn't subscribe to any other music apps, I still think subscription for something like Logic Pro could be appropriate / economical for someone who had need of it only on an occasional basis. I'm not such a person though.

  • GarageBand. On desktop, Logic Pro.

Just wait until it’s stable to upgrade.

Please try Audio Evolution with Future Drummer as an Audio input instead of a MIDI input. Works well.
On n-Track I has to connect using Audiobus2, not the current Audiobus version.

I got FD feeding OneShot in Cubasis working and multi out working fine. I’ll try the guitar chain but don’t expect any problems. My interface is integrated into my desktop setup.

I don’t have Ambiente (the room modeler?)

MIDI out from FD wouldn’t work with Cubasis, I used Network. Then into OneShot via MIDI in to the first instance of OneShot. Hope this helps.

Right now (will change probably though i am trying to simplify):
    BM3
MTS, and Cubasis tied for second place
FLSM 4 and iMPC Pro 2 tied for second again :p

(Its a lot but i did succeed in eliminating 5 of the other ones out there)

    Also a pile of grooveboxes

None of them do everything, which has been always been true in iOS music apps at least since i started in fooling with it 2010

  • Cubasis and it ain't even close.

... until/unless FLSM starts hosting AUs.

  • FL Studio Mobile. It has everything I need so I don't need (or want to deal with) plugins.

They just added a randomizer and you can now save as an .flp that will open in the newest FL Studio desktop version.

Didn’t know that there was a new update a few weeks ago.. Thanks

Thanks for the welcome, this place is pretty cool. Lots of activity, which is a certain sign that there's a wealth of info here!

And yeah I'm right there with you on all the IAP, thank goodness for all of Korg's frequent sales. I haven't made much music over the last 9 or so months so I've barely played with v3, but I can't wait to try out the new gadgets like Santa Ana and Osaka.

Thanks for the info! Just downloaded it a couple hours ago, it's reminding me a bit of my MC-101. I just got Bitwig and promised myself I was going to finally learn how to use an adult-sized DAW, but I can see Zenbeats stealing the time I was going to put into that.

  • For me it’s hands down Cubasis and in second place Zenbeats. Cubasis as everything I need and I enjoy using it.

I have bought every IAP except for the 2 new pianos. I don’t use pianos that often to need more than the current 6 Microsonic and 17 HALion pianos included. That is what is keeping from using from using Zenbeat more often.

  • Cubasis 3. I refuse to do subscriptions, otherwise I might’ve at least checked out Logic Pro.

As it stands though, from what I’m willing to try, Cubasis 3 is the best by far.

  • Cubasis 3

  • Ok I’ll fall for it… AUM is my favourite DAW of 2025 😊
btw @FizzyLizzy27 I assume you know about the Navigator in AUM which makes the horizontal scrolling less of an issue ?

  • Cubasis 3.

100% about AUM. I groan about it mostly in jest but it’s the most reliable I find.

For those who helped troubleshoot IAA in Cubasis I got it working. Thanks for the tips!

Definitely! This place evolved over the years from a simple forum for Audiobus to a fully-fledged iOS musician's haven. Plenty of info to be found. ☺️

Sounds like a good plan to me. :) A new year, new beginnings, all that stuff. I'm glad we're both Korg completionists, meaning I'm not the only one lol.
