https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fabfilter-pro-c-3/id6757433041

Compatible with AUv3 host apps such as GarageBand, Auria, AUM, Cubasis and n-Track Pro.

FabFilter Pro-C 3 is a professional compressor plug-in with very high quality sound, flexible side chain options, beautiful program-dependent compression styles, authentic analog coloration, and a stunning user interface.

The Pro-C 3 app filters the microphone input and plays it back in real-time. To use Pro-C 3 as a plug-in, you need an AUv3-compatible host app like Auria, AUM or Cubasis. Pro-C 3 will appear in the list of Audio Unit extensions for effect plug-ins in the host app.

Key features:

  • Fourteen different compression styles: Versatile, Smooth, Upward, TTM, Op-El and Vari-Mu in addition to the Clean, Classic, Opto, Vocal, Mastering, Bus, Punch and Pumping styles from Pro-C 2
  • Polished and user-friendly interface, with (optional) animated level knee displays and accurate peak/loudness metering
  • Three types of realistic analog saturation, coloration and drift: Tube, Diode and Bright
  • Side-chain EQ section with a maximum of six bands offering many filter types and LP/HP
    Brickwall slopes

  • Program-dependent attack and release curves

  • Variable lookahead (up to 20 ms), which can be enabled/disabled to ensure zero-latency processing
  • Host tempo triggering for rhythmic compression
  • Intelligent Auto Gain
  • Auto Threshold for level-independent compressor triggering
  • Hold (up to 500 ms)
  • Custom knee, variable from hard knee to a 72 dB soft knee (to enable saturation-like effects)
  • Auto Release
  • Up to 32x oversampling
  • Variable stereo linking and mid/side processing, with mid-only, side-only, M > S and S > M processing
  • Audition Triggering option, which enables users to hear on which parts of the audio FabFilter Pro-C 2 is triggering and how much compression is being applied
  • Range setting, which limits the maximum applied gain change
  • Mix setting, which scales the gain change from 0% to 200%
  • Accurate, large level and gain meters, with peak and loudness level visualization (which complies with the Momentary mode of the EBU R128 / ITU-R
    1770 standards)

  • External side-chain triggering

  • Optional MIDI triggering
  • Undo/redo and A/B comparison

"Pro-C is set to become a staple of many professionals' toolkits. Everyone needs a good compressor, and there are few as good as this. A future classic. Verdict: 10/10!"

"From its excellent sound quality to its extensive feature set and in- formative interface, Pro-C is a must-have dynamics processor."

  • Did anyone try and check if the IOS release also includes the support of the „multi instance overview“ like in the desktop version ?

It is not mentioned in the key feature list, so i‘m wondering if it was omitted.

In the desktop world the overview integrates into the FF Pro-Q4 multi-instance overview - i suspect that might need an update the ios version of Pro-Q4 (but there is no such update)

Pro-Q4 for desktop got updated today but as far as I've seen no update to Pro-Q4 on iPad yet...
...I do suspect most of the other apps will require an update as well to support the new multi-instance overview functionality.

I think it does. On the bottom center there is something like A1:1. If you press that it will show you all instances.

    Here is a screenshot:

Pro-Q4 multi-instance view has been there since Pro-Q4 was released.
What the new Pro-C3 and (Pro-Q4 update) brings is the option to see all FF instances in one view (ie. Pro-Q4, Pro-C3, Pro-G, Pro-DS etc.).

    Ah ok, my bad.

No worries, the multi-instance that is new is highlighted in the video from FF about halfway thru :)

My guess is that all the 'supporting' apps (Pro-G, Pro-DS etc.) need to be updated as well for this to work.

I additionally hope for an update „C2 to C3 bundle“, like they did with Q3 to Q4.

  • Did anyone buy iPadOS Pro-C3? I don’t think that modular channel strip works on the iPadOS yet.

I bought the desktop version only, and I needed to update (Jan. 13) Pro-DS, Pro-G, and ProQ4 for the channel strip to work.

That‘s what i suspected. I really hope they port over the full overview feature as i have the complete FabFilter collection on IOS and really enjoy using it. FF Pro-Q4 is super lightweight that i usually add it to all audio channels and then check for freq overlaps in the overview.

I might consider getting Pro-C3 for the iPad once the other apps are updated as it's the instance integration portion I'm most interested in.

That would be nice. I just got C2 during the black November sale.

Fabfilter has uploaded the Dan Worrall video for Pro-C3:

  • I love Dan Worrall's videos! Great speaking voice and always generally informative.

And, yeah, just instabought Pro-C3. My instabuys are usually few and far between, but Fabfilter always makes great plugins that just work. Perfect for the AUM jamming environment.

I like how FF advanced in the channel strip feature, and for the iOS type of DAWs that restrict showing more than one AUv3 window at the same time, it will be a great addition.

Yeah, this or I’ll wait for the next sale. I have more than enough time because mixing and mastering is on my desktop for now. 😌

  • I like TB Compressor from Toneboosters. Not as complicated to use, does the job AND works on iOS, iPadOS and desktop (this FabFilter plugin does not work on iOS, just iPadOS).

Also, I find the touch targets on FabFilter plugins unusably small and finicky.

Having bought most off their plugins in the past and then ultimately never using any of them due to these issues, I chose Toneboosters instead. Your mileage may vary. ;)

  • Demo for the iOS version

Can’t see a desktop option listed, are you sure? Wish they were universal, I’ve got a few TB apps, and definitely rate them.
