Confirming: record and playback GeoShred AU3 MIDI within Loopy Pro
I want to do what the title says. Is this the right way to do it? (it seems to work)
1. Make MIDI loop
2. Add GS Midi-Processor as Source
3. Add GS Instrument as Destination
4. Play using the GS Source surface
In 2, does the GS MIDI setting matter? And other presets of 2 make no difference, since it purely sending MIDI MPE via the MIDI loop into 3?
What kinds of edits to the MIDI are expected to work? e.g. I get strange behavior if I move a note to start it early (ghost note inserted), or stretch a note.
Thanks in advance, @wim and @espiegel123 ![]()

I'm sure Edward will do a better job of responding, but since I happen to be sitting here when your post came in...
I'm not completely sure I understand what you're saying. But here's how I would set it up:
Editing will not work well. You can move notes, but the MPE data will not be edited, so it will be out of line with the notes. Re-recording is the only real option.
Your question about the GS Midi instance setting shouldn't matter when set up this way since it's all one instance. The only requirement is that GS isn't set to not send out midi.
@des1303 : I think @wim answered most of your questions. While Loopy Pro is an excellent MPE recorder/player, it is not set up at this point to handle edits well. Editing notes will end up deleting non-note MIDI data. The issue is on our radar, but I have no ETA on a fix.
Thanks!
This may be causing me trouble as I had messed with this in standalone GS earlier. What can it be set to? Is MPE Channel Mode a safe general default, and with "Connect:Off" showing on top of the MIDI dialog?
Can I do this once in standalone GS? Once for each AU instance in each LP project?
Sorry, I'm not sure I'm following you. I'm pretty sure the default GS settings for the plugin will send out midi. It certainly was if you heard sound the way you had it set up. I guess if I dug around a little I could find out how to configure GS to not send midi out, but I think you'd have to take specific steps to do that. I also don't know how the standalone settings influence the plugin, if at all. I was only referring to the fact that the plugin can be set to not send out midi. I don't know if I've ever done that or not. I wouldn't have any reason to. I don't know if I've ever used the standalone version since the plugin came out.
Sorry, I'm not a GeoShred expert. I've hardly used it. I know how it works for me in Loopy Pro recording to midi clips, and that's about it.
Ok, thanks a bunch, @espiegel123 too!
(Fwiw, when trying different GS AU MIDI settings within LP after following your steps 1-4 (thanks for those!), GS sometimes hung up or glides behaved weird, hence my question)
I will look into this tomorrow. It has been a while since I have record GS MIDI, and I noticed something odd when I tried it just now.
Here is a video. I let it use the GS default MIDI (AUM MPE), which Pat@GeoShred separately recommended. It shows some weird glide / slide behavior at the end, and I have seen others even stranger.
Thanks for posting the video. I think the problem you are having is because midi colours have monitoring on by default…and since the GS midi is being sent to orange weird stuff is happening when that gets sent through back to GS. Tap on the GS destination of Orange and turn monitor through and takeover off

Btw, it looks like the strange midi playback I mentioned last night was a byproduct of my forgetting to turn off MIDI through when I set up my project.
Once I remembered to turn it off, it all worked fine.
Wow! Mind Blown! Thank you!!
Tech foot-guns everywhere, for me! Don't know what I'd do without such generous help!!
Oh, for the days of piano and Audacity on my Mac
