Bit frustrating looking through the devices list (https://www.reasonstudios.com/devices), each time I see something interesting and click to see if it's included (you have to check, there's no version filter) I find it isn't!

There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of difference between the old version I have from 8 years ago, and the new one unless you go for the sub. So basically £69 to have a version that works. Fair enough though I guess.

I’m thinking the unthinkable, and chewing over the sub, otherwise I'll be forever eyeing up the stuff that's not included. Argh, bloody subscriptions!

Yep the list is annoying. I jotted down all that I wanted then waited for the sale. They seem to cycle through what is on sale, changing it now and again, with a big sale just gone. To be fair, I have probably 70 percent of what I want now after just a couple of sales.

Maybe worth keeping an eye incase the pricing of the individual items change now that the new company owns them? And keep in mind the overlap with software you already have. Once you hit a good sale, youll probably buy a few instruments and the players and call it a day. While ive tried a few non Reason Studio items like some Rob Papan synths, its the Reason Studios gear that works best in the rack format

Yeah, there’s not much in the base Studio that I can’t already replicate via Live Suite and Komplete, but some of the Reason + kit such as Objekt and Friktion would be really nice to have. They’re pricey though (most seem to be around £100) so it’d have to be a sale purchase.

Haven’t ruled out the £69 base purchase as I enjoy Reason’s old style UI - a bit of fresh air compared to the tiny utilitarian strip in Live, but like you say it’s juggling available funds vs overlap! I’m also interested in Pigments and Absynth 6, so any Reason purchase would take funds from a potential purchase of those.

Thanks for all your feedback, still on the cards - need to make my mind up before that deal ends!

Love Pigments. One of my most used VSTs at the moment. Got it at half price in the last sale.

Still seems to be on sale ($99) direct, or £84 from some third-parties…

Well worth the money. But Reason is such a bargain at under a ton! Also there is a Humble Bundle that includes some Cherry Audio synths at the moment, worth a look if you dont have the particular synths.

Yeah more research tonight on Reason core required. Just realised I have Massive X, and there's some really good stuff in that one. If it had the sample option it'd be a challenger for Pigments.

Grabbed the Humble Bundle last week - PS-20's really good.

Yeah Massive X is great. Not sure why it's not more popular, probably its first release was a bit dodgy, not sure. I use it lots for the play page and really love some of the presets. I get a different vibe from it and Pigments. I think some synths are more likely to lead you in certain directions, even mega synths like Pigments and Massive X. They appear in nearly all my tracks along with Minifreak V and Imposcar3.

Edit: Have you guys checked out Ultra ? Benn Jordan had a demo that made me buy it (rent to own) but haven't had the time yet to go deeper. I can't find the Jordan video (it was live christmas) strange enough, sorry about that.

Ultra? not heard of that yet....is it a synth? Maybe a Depeche Mode synth perhaps lol

That's what the link was for, it answers any questions better than I ever could but, yes it's a new synth.

Decision finally made, Pigments 7 for me, after watching a few vids that demonstrated the depth of potential for sound design. What's finally pushed me off the fence is hearing the Modal synth option, which seems capable of Objekt style sounds. At £84 on sale it seems like a total bargain. Hope to pick it up tomorrow.

There's still some Reason stuff I'd like - Friktion for example, so I'll be keeping an eye out for sales.
