JWM - John the Engineer ((Mostly) Drone Ambient in Koala Sampler)

This one comes with a short backstory. My friend who calls himself John provided me a field recording of his place of employment where he works. He's an engineer and works around machinery a lot. So I used this recording as a basis for the rest of the piece. There's a machine hum sound right on B-flat, so that set the key. I decided to go for a minor scale. I then used Megalit for the bass drone, and Sunrizer for the fifth pads, and Ravenscroft for the piano.

(Yes I played a piano melody in, which is why this is mostly a piece of drone Ambient.)

I sampled everything into Koala Sampler in AUM, then recorded it live from Koala through Bleass Reverb and Taip. I mastered this piece in Cubasis 3 with my usual chain of Bark Filter, Cubasis' Brickwall, and Youlean's Loudness Meter.

Enjoy. ❤️

Thank you, my good friend. :) Glad you like it.

  • Great use of sound FX. I just might steal this idea. Thanks.

  • Oh, BTW, this is the first time I've ever seen somebody mention the use of Sunrizer. That synth doesn't get nearly enough love. Sounds great here.

Go right ahead. :) I don't mind. Have fun.

Thanks mate. :) Yeah, I wanted to use something a bit "vintage" as far as iOS synths go, and Sunrizer fits the bill neatly. :) I may try a "Blamsoft" challenge next to be honest.

  • So, I've had my cardioversion again, really great towards the end. Thanks Jim, excellent work! I really mean it, frenq
