I guess I won't bother buying a Maschine for a while now

Thanks for the detailed answer @QuietBrian, I played a bit with the chopper for textures and it was quite nice!
BM3 is still the goat sampler, but I've moved to iPhone only these days
On a more positive note. Here's the most recent track I made in BM3:
I hate all the recent clickbaity Youtubers and their doomsday commentary on Native Instruments! I have spent a couple of years with Push 3 and have had a lot of fun with it but It comes nowhere near Maschine for software/hardware integration!
I currently have my 3rd repurchased Maschine MK3 which I got, barely used, for $280CDN. I would buy it again today despite the news.......in fact......especially now as I am sure people will be in a panic to sell their NI hardware for a fraction of what it is truly worth!
If you get to know your way around the NI Controller editor, you can make same amazing templates (I made one to control every aspect of Tardigrain on my iPad a few years back!) If you have a large amount of sample loops and oneshots, you can easily create your own awesome looking thumbnail images to categorize them and preview on the hardware! This alone makes it an awesome piece of hardware!
If you use Ableton, there is a new script that allows your MK3 to control all the basic transport/mixer functions as well as all aspects of each Ableton device.
I'm not worried about NI. This could end up being the best thing to happen to what has become a very poorly run company for many years now! Here is a more level-heading analysis of what is happening with NI:
I was actually thinking the same thing. Maybe even some good sales on new hardware.
Ah, those were the days. 2023-2025, I was an iPhone-only producer since my 14 Pro Max had 1TB storage. This was before the Mini 7 was released with 512gb storage, which is the minimal amount of storage I require given I have a ton of audio samples, work with long pieces of audio for my Ambient works, and so on and so forth.
Wait. Why would anyone be in a panic to sell hardware because the manufacturer might go out of business? I don't understand. It's hardware. It doesn't stop working if the company that made it goes out of business.
Not trying to be argumentative - I really don't understand the reasoning.
I think it's because of the worry that if something goes wrong or breaks there might now be no way to fix it. So it loses some value. Not sure how legitimate that worry is, but I think that's the worry. (Might be by the same people who are often enticed to buy add-on warranties.)
Absolutely, totally agree! That said, the panic is at full tilt right now. Go to the NI forums and have a look. Numerous Youtubers taking the opportunity to blow things way out of proportion to get views etc.
I was on Facebook marketplace the other day and found about 4 or 5 Maschine controllers.......I just checked right now out of curiosity and there must be close to 30 today in my city ! Also way more NI keyboards than there normally is !
Anybody who has been thinking about getting NI gear should wait a few weeks then lowball all the competing sellers to get an amazing deal on some very high quality equipment! I may pick up a Maschine Jam (would be my 3rd time buying) if I see a ridiculously low price on FB or Craigslist !
I think the panic is somewhat justified. I'd be upset too if I dumped thousands of dollars of my hard-earned money into the NI ecosystem and then this happened. But also, the way Youtubers are blowing things out of proportion is unwarrented and fueling the panic.
Then again, I will say that there are several rare vintage hardware synths and drum machines out there that still function fine after decades of usage. They sometimes sell for tens of thousands of dollars on eBay and other marketplaces with no guarantee they'll work smoothly. If NI were to disappear tomorrow, Maschine in its various forms will probably become vintage hardware decades down the line that will be rare and sought after.
Part of being a music producer is learning to adapt. Apps, plugins, hardware, they all come and go eventually. Nothing will last forever but the creative spirit within us musicians. I know that sounds corny and sappy and dumb, but there it is.
Anyways, back to the thread topic. I can't wait to deep dive into BM3 and see what Ambient experiments and beats I can create with it.
The brilliant Kitmaker program makes it possible to instantly convert the many incredible Maschine Expansions into BM3 kits in minutes. It also converts traditional/vintage sample libraries into BM3, MPC and several other formats. While Koala Sampler isn't directly supported there is a workaround
What price range should I be looking out for if I go that route? Looks like they hover around $100.
Yes I have Kitmaker, it is great.
