That was a satisfying listen, I like the bass lines. To life!
Listened again. There’s a lot going on but it’s not annoying. You’re a good story teller.
Thank you @Blipsford_Baubie for noticing the story telling. It’s something I always aspire to.
Reminded me of old school videogame OST music. That's a compliment, because I love that type of music. ❤️ What apps did you use for this creation?
A chiptunes band performing very orchestral sounding music. I'm picturing the pit full of Mos Eisley residents haha, nice.
@Gavinski thank you. I think?

@jwmmakerofmusic. My kids also tell me my stuff sounds like video game music. Odd because I never really got into those. In any case thanks. I used logic and it’s built ins - mostly retro and es2 synths. I deliberately try to avoid “realistic” samples, except for drums, preferring an intentionally synthesized sound. I also avoid quick sampler and sample alchemy due to their tendency to lose reference to user samples and corrupt the whole project.
A lovely remedy for anxiety and depression, uplifting music made by a carbon based life form 👍
That's awesome you got this from Logic. Yeah, last I used Logic, it had its show-stopping bugs which made me avoid using it. 😅 Hopefully Apple sorted that out by now?
Nope. The new version still has the same old bugs. Near as I can tell they have fixed nothing I have submitted bug reports on. Only added more features on top of the bugs. Logic pros just barely outweigh the cons on most days. Some days they do not.
@GeoTony - thanks. Maybe we need some sort of silicon/carbon based handicapping system. Maybe separate sections here for artificial intelligence and natural ignorance.
I see. That's a shame those bugs weren't fixed yet. Logic Pro would be perfect otherwise. I tend to work super fast, and if a bug is a show-stopper, then I turn away from said app and try another one. 😅
I really enjoyed this piece. So many different musical moods. It's quite epic in scope. I felt like I was being led on a journey. Nice one!
Damn! This is so cool. I would love to hear a huge orchestral version without the modern electronic instruments. This reminds me of something by one of those old timey Russian composers whose last names start with “S”.
Looks like winter here in Chicago is finally coming to an end. Of course, as I’m sure you know, we will probably get clobbered at least one more time. Looking forward to sitting outside in my comfy chair and smelling the fresh cut grass. I like the picture you posted of your comfy chair! Good luck, have fun, don’t die. Peace, bro.
You are a modern day Tomita, the influences are strong in this track, you are a man who knows his music and how best to portray it to the masses, a true composer. I loved it, so full of surprises, it takes you in all directions, its like Progressive Orchestral, have you ever listened to Mars, The Bringer Of War by Emerson, Lake & Powell, it’s their modern take of the great classic from the Planet Suite composed by Gustav Holst, you fall into this category.
I just tried to listen to it a second time and there is no audio ? I will close this page and try again.
Mike
This is no video game music, this is proper film music, wow, how did you get all those ideas? Every instrument, every sound had its place, and the chosen sounds worked perfectly, the deep bass was beautifully enormous, overall-sheer excellence 👌
@ecamburn - thank you so much. I love instrumental music that, when you close your eyes and just listen, it takes you somewhere. I have always strived for that. Thank you for the validation.
@rapidfire - Tomita? ELP? Holst? I am intimately familiar with all and I am humbled to be put into the same sentence. Exaggeration is too mild a word but I’ll take the compliment. Thank you. And you know, I have been noticing some oddities here with sound not playing or link images not loading sometimes.
@Paulieworld - I would love to hear an orchestra play it too. You know any?
One of the biggest gifts this technology gives is the ability to realize your music with having to count on other people who too often let you down. That of course is a double edged sword but at least you can get it out there. As for Chicago weather, I’ve always said that spring in Chicago is a cruel hoax. Just when you thought it was safe to back outside….
You mentioned somewhere recently that all your old band mates (from DeKalb?) either moved south or died. I decided a couple years ago to chose the former to maybe avoid the latter a bit longer. So far it’s working well.
Nearly missed this - glad I didn't. Excellent composition and arranging. I would also love to hear this performed by an orchestra tutti. Perhaps some Staffpad users could oblige.
Glad to hear you got out of Chicago. Hope it's nice and sunny where you are at.
Unfortunately, I had to let my orchestra go. I was just thinking it might sound good using the MIDI with a few of those orchestral apps. Individually, they don't sound that great, but with a lot of layers and some reverb, they are pretty realistic.
I used "went south" as a metaphor for what you just did. One went to LA, one to Kansas City, one to Milwaukee. The Fleetwood Mac tribute moved to Las Vegas and performs under the name Fleetwood Nicks. I think they might still be active. The drummer in the Pink Floyd tribute died about 10 years ago. It's the only thing we can all be sure about.
We just saw a good movie with a great title. Good luck, have fun, don't die!
@pbelgium - thanks much. I could probably redo it with samples as you mention. I’ve done it too many times before. When I started on iPad music making, I made a conscious decision to not to use samples. It’s very difficult to make it convincing and it always sounds fake. So I try to go in the opposite direction. To use synth sounds that fill the same sonic space as acoustic instruments but don’t pretend to be them. I will occasionally use a sampled instrument but only in conjunction with synth sounds. Another factor is that too many musicians have lost their jobs to sampled instruments. I do not want to be perceived as being somebody doing that anymore. Having said that I am working on something now that features a Swamm instrument.
@Paulieworld - I’ll be back in Chicago for the summer. Trying really hard not to die. You do the same please. Holy smokes! There really is a movie with that name! I will check it out.
