PopDrummer auv3 sending notes to Soft Drummer ?
Hello,
Does anyone know if it is possible to send notes from PopDrummer auV3 to Soft Drummer ? (Loopy Pro as the host)
Here are the steps I followed :
- created a midi plugin track for "PopDrummer"
- added a midi destination for this track to "Soft Drummer"
- set the same midi channel for this destination as the midi channels of PopDrummer and Soft Drummer
- activated the "Send notes" button in PopDrummer
These exact steps allow me to successfully send PopDrummer's midi notes to Logic Pro, why doesn't it work for Soft Drummer ?
Thanks for your help

When putting "StreamByter" in the midi destination, I can see that the midi notes are sent from PopDrummer so it seems that the issue comes from SoftDrummer that doesn't receive them.
Soft Drummer's midi IN is set to "Loopy Pro" in SD settings tab
Hi. This may be caused by confusion over the virtual MIDI ports. An app can have two virtual MIDI ports, one for input and one for output. Other apps see those ports with the name of the providing app. Inside an app these ports will use other names, such as "virtual MIDI bridge", etc. When you send from Loopy Pro to Soft Drummer, you're addressing Soft Drummer's input port. When Soft Drummer receives from Loopy Pro, it is listening to Loopy's output port. So the messages may be on crossed paths. One of those ends needs to be changed to use its own input or output port.
Thanks for the reply @uncledave ;-)
I'm aware of this possible confusion... in this case no confusion possible as I only have "LOOPY PRO" available as midi in or out in Soft Drummer, nothing else.
And in Loopy destination I also only have one single choice that is called : "SOFT DRUMMER".
That's why I don't understand what's wrong
What exactly is your goal? Would you like to have the same pattern available in SoftDrummer as is generated (played) in PopDrummer? You can do that by "Send groove" feature from standalone PopDrummer to standalone SoftDrummer. "Send groove" for other drummers is not implemented yet in PopDrummer AUv3. And in my opinion, this feature will only be available from AUv3 to AUv3 drummers.
Yes I would like Soft Drummer (stand alone) to play the patterns of Pop Drummer auV3.
So I have now the answer : it's not possible cause not yet implemented !
Thanks @filo01
Softdrummer doesn’t have a sound module mode. It doesn’t respond to midi notes for sample playing.
OK thanks, all is clear now ! ;-)
EDIT: I GOT EXCIITED BUT SOFT DRUMMER JUST STARTED PLAYING and I ASSUMED IT WAS GETTING MIDI FROM ANOTHER DRUM APP.
NEVER MIND….
There is one mistake in the above, though as seen above, it's not the main issue. If Soft Drummer had sound module mode, and you set Loopy Pro as the input in Soft Drummer, you need to set "Virtual MIDI Out" as the MIDI destination from Pop Drummer in Loopy Pro.
Just FYI in case you try this with other Lumbeats apps that do have sound module mode.
