JWM - 021326b (Ambient with Drone, Piano, and Voice in AUM ft Koala Sampler)

This is probably my most complex piece of Ambient to date. Thanks to @jakoB_haQ 's video on Youtube...

...I've harnessed the power of @elf_audio 's Koala's multi-out feature. It works a treat in @j_liljedahl 's AUM! So here's what I sampled...

The bass drone is @AnalogMatthew 's freshly-released J8 synth. The middle chord drone is the Kiev AUv3 from Korg Gadget 3. The harsh "fifth" drone is @bleassapp 's Megalit. The tremolo string section is from @LFS 's amazing Iconica Sketch. The piano riff is from Korg Module Pro's "American Ivory D" pack, and the vocal is from Module's Soprano pack.

(I'm tagging the devs who are active here as a way to say a huge "thank you" to them all for their hard work! Without which, I wouldn't be able to create the Ambient that I do!)

I routed all 6 sounds out of Koala and into the master bus in AUM, and on the master bus I put Stratosphere Cloud Reverb and Taip. I recorded the live performance, but instead of using the faders from Koala's buss mixer, I used AUM's faders instead. Very handy!

After recording the live performance, I applied some mastering in Cubasis using Bark Filter, Cubasis' Brickwall, and Youlean's Loudness Meter.

This piece in particular was partially inspired by Jean-Michel Jarre's "Waiting for Cousteau" (my all-time favorite piece of Ambient), and partially inspired by Brian Eno's music in general. Using endless drones as well as the Frippertronics of asynchronous loops for the piano and voice was so much fun. Gonna tag some friends I know who are into Ambient (whether listening as fans, or actively producing Ambient themselves) - @Pierre118 @rottencat @Svetlovska .


Brass tacks - this new-to-me way of producing Ambient is pretty damn incredible!

    I tell you, 4 buss tracks was too limiting, so I learned through Jakob how to use the Multiout to have up to 8 tracks. 4 more tracks makes a huge difference.

    I agree, friend. Jakob Haq's videos are always super informative, and this one is no exception. Clocks in at under 10 minutes total, but the first portion is about a pretty cool piece of fan art he received. Yeah, more tracks means more faders at your fingertips means more complex drones and such.

    For the complex drones, I usually record the sustained pad or sustained bass to a certain point and set a crossfade loop. But only having four tracks is pretty limiting. Fun if you want to work within limits. However, this piece above was 6 tracks, and it seemed to be the sweet spot.

    Honestly, I can't wait for Drone Day this year. It's on May 30th this year, and I plan to make a very long piece of Drone Ambient, hopefully hitting the 30 minute mark or exceeding it.

    Nice journey with a cool evolution from the harshness of the beginning to quite a delicate piano part.

    I'm glad you enjoyed it, mate. :) It was very fun to make. Took a bit longer to set up than my previous pieces of Ambient. I also allowed myself to go beyond the 10-minute mark, even though I know the piece won't get as many listens. (The piece must be at least 1 minute long up to 10 minutes long in order to enter the Soundcloud algorithm if you're a Pro subscriber like me.)

    Edit: I wanted this piece to breathe better, which is why I allowed it to go beyond 10 minutes.
