Good luck, have fun, don’t die

I’m the man in the diner.

It’s the title of a new movie: “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die”. Haven’t seen it.
    88% on Rotten Tomatoes…

A man claiming to be from the future takes the patrons of an iconic Los Angeles diner hostage in search of unlikely recruits in a quest to save the world. So, being in the diner makes @Paulieworld a hostage, I guess.

Directed by Gore Verbinski who made the great “Pirates of the Caribean” movies with Johnny Depp as Cap’n Jack Sparrow.

Aren’t we all just hostages in the game of life?

No one gets out alive. You’re relationship to the afterlife may disagree but I respect evidence. Those people that see white light when their brain is interrupted don’t see credible to me. Again, the position you have before hearing this testimony informs your interpretation of the evidence. I mean, who wouldn’t want to believe there’s more and we should not fear getting yanked from the game before the final buzzer.

  • @McD The things that interests me are the common experiences that many describe, regardless of their faith or lifestyles. I suppose it could just be the reaction of the brain shutting down. I know two that have had the experience. Both from extremely different backgrounds and lifestyles. I prefer to think there is more, and encourage others to have an open mind. What could it hurt? It's free, and you don't have to subscribe. Just my two cents.

The one thing I learned to live by from a college philosophy class was:

    "Don't immanentize the eschaton."

    Background from Gemini:

That famous (and famously complex) mouthful was coined by the political philosopher Eric Voegelin in his 1952 book, The New Science of Politics.

However, the phrase is most widely recognized in its slightly punchier, rhyming form: "Don't immanentize the eschaton."
    What does it actually mean?

To understand the wit behind the warning, it helps to break down those heavy academic terms:

    • Immanentize: To make something "immanent"—meaning to bring it into the physical, material world.
    • Eschaton: The theological "end of times" or the ultimate state of perfection/heaven.

    The Core Message:

Voegelin was warning against political movements (like Marxism or Nazism) that claim they can create a perfect, "heaven-on-earth" utopia through human action or government policy. He argued that trying to force a divine-level perfection onto the messy reality of human society usually leads to disaster or totalitarianism.

    I like "Obviate Obfuscation".
I learned that from the late, great Malcolm Chisholm of Chess Records.
