Rest In Peace Fred Smith
I don’t know how I just heard about this.
He was a kind man who just happened to be in one of the greatest rock bands ever.
100 years from now, people, if we endure, will be re-listening to the brilliance that was Television.

😢
It is awful that half the band is now gone. I last spoke to Richard Lloyd about five years ago, and he seemed to have some health conditions of his own.
I was heartbroken too, just as I was heartbroken when Tom Verlaine passed. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to an album like Marquee Moon, and their entire catalog has gems in it. Fred Smith’s bass lines, compact and melodic, were a huge influence in my own playing, and for all accounts he was a great person. May he rest in peace.
Just yesterday, Apple music shuffled “Friction” onto the rental car stereo. It’s impossible not to smile whenever Television is in the air.
First Television song I heard, about 25 years ago, in a proto-streaming service here in Brazil where songs always sounded a little bit crushed. That guitar in the intro pierced my brain. I’ll never forget.
Crap. Such a great band - so good at creating intertwining and unpredictable musical elements. Doesn’t really seem that those guys are much older than me, so it’s hard to believe that half the band is gone.
